Top 5 games to see at The Gadget Show Live 2011

Making an appearance at The Gadget Show Live are some great games for all consoles. Some, such as Gears of War 3 and Duke Nukem Forever haven’t even reached the shops yet – making The Gadget Show Live the best place to get hands on with them. Check out our pick of the bunch below, that includes a few of those yet-to-be-released titles, and a couple more you must try if you haven’t already.

Gears of War 3 (Xbox 360)

The game Xbox 360 owners are looking forward to most. Not much is known of the Gears of War 3 story – developer Epic Games is giving little away. What we do know is that Gears of War will feature new playable characters, new weapons such as bayonet-equipped Retro Lancer and an overhauled multiplayer mode that rewards players with medals, in the most complete Gears multiplayer experience yet. Gears of War 3 releases on September 20th – till then The Gadget Show Live is the best place to see it first.

Duke Nukem Forever (PC, PS3, Xbox 360)

The Duke is back in one of the most-awaited games in history. Over 13 years in the making, Duke Nukem Forever will will finally be released on June 10th 2011 – bringing with it a meaner, more badass attitude than and Duke Nukem game before it. The sequel takes place 12 years after the events of Duke Nukem 3D. Duke is living the high life and loving it. That is, until hordes of aliens start reappearing. Now Duke must once again save the world – offering the perfect excuse for all-out over-the-top action. Duke Nukem Forever is all about shooting baddies up, and having fun doing so. Expect plenty of weapons, massive enemy bosses and bundles of bravado in what is already shaping up to be one of 2011’s best shooters.

Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition (3DS)

The most impressive of the Nintendo 3DS launch titles – Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition delivers an experience as close to the console version as you’ll get. Developer – Capcom has done a marvellous job in squeezing in all 35 playable fighters, an Arcade, Versus, Challenges, Training, online play and a 3DS-exclusive 3D versus mode. This latest handheld take on the beat-em-up shows that Nintendo, and publishers such as Capcom are serious about pushing the 3DS to its limits to deliver the “core” games that have been missing from Nintendo’s recent catalogue. The Gadget Show Live is the perfect chance to get hands-on with the fighter before deciding whether to splash out on a Nintendo 3DS of your own. If any game will convince you to own a 3DS, this is it.

inFamous 2 (PS3)

In a pool of open-world third-person superhero games, the original inFamous was one of the better ones when it launched in 2009 – combining a gritty story, a dystopian city setting, agile parkour style gameplay and a morality-based system where the player was able to play as either a good or bad guy. The first game’s story centred around Cole, who after an explosion found himself granted with the power to shoot electric bolts from his bare hands. inFamous 2 sees Cole in a new city ready to take on more mutants using his improved powers. Promised this time around is a new morality system, where the choices you make affect the story, a more “vibrant” setting, destructive buildings, collapsible environments and a better story. inFamous 2 isn’t out in shops till June, so be sure to catch it on the show floor.

Face Raiders (3DS)

The second Nintendo 3DS game on top 5 list of games to check out. Face Raiders is an augmented reality game that comes bundled on the console. Players take a photo of their own face, which is then placed onto shooting targets that appear to exist in the real world. To shoot them players must physically move and point the 3DS at them. There’s nothing like it on any games console elsewhere. If you haven’t already, the Gadget Show Live is the perfect place to give it a try.
