Avatar First Gameplay Footage

Tuesday 29 September

James Cameron’s Avatar: The Game is the upcoming video game adaptation of James Cameron’s 3D film due out at the end of the year which Ubisoft have been busy working on side by side with the film for two and a half years.

The game is set several years before the film kicks off you choose whether to align yourself with the planet inhabitants the Navi or military-industrial forces of Earth. Take the latter option and you’ll have hi-tech equiment and weapons that comes with the military forces but choose the not so Tech Savi Navi and you have to settle with more simplistic weaponry such as longbows, maces, axes. But whoever you choose you’ll get a different game experience bringing lots of re-playability to the game.

The game has been developed by Ubisoft Montreal, where we at the Gadget Show were lucky enough to recently visit; things at the studio have been so secretive that only staff who have been working on the project have been given access to the game. They have also been lucky enough to work side by side with James Cameron, sharing assets from the movie to put in the game and getting creative input from the man himself.

Avatar boasts to be one of the first full 3D titles which sounded great on paper and after seeing it myself it looks stunning, but sadly it’s not going to come cheap, you will need to fork out for a full 3D TV with compatible equipment, which I can’t see many people running to shops to do, but even Ubisoft themselves admit the install base is going to be small to start off with but could possibly grow after they see the game in action.

But before you shell out on that new 60” 3DTV Check out the first game play footage and start counting down until the game launches in December!
