Assassin's Creed 2

Tuesday 17 November

Don’t get me wrong I liked the first Assassin’s Creed but it always felt like there was something lacking with both the story and game play, it just felt hollow and lacked variety. But flash forward two years of hard work from Ubisoft’s Montreal Studios and they deliver Assassin’s Creed 2, which does everything a sequel should – it takes the best from the first game and delivers so much more, so once you complete game you will be gasping for more.

If you liked AC1 it’s easy to step into AC2, but great thing about AC2 is those of you who didn’t enjoy it or are playing for the first time you will still find it easy to pick up and play, and wont feel left out not knowing what happened in the predecessor.

The game also still follows Desmond Miles who starts the game where he left off as prisoner at Abstergo Industries, but this time he escapes and is taken to a secret hideout with the help from the historian – Shaun Hastings (who is voiced by Writer-Comedian Danny Wallace). This time the game is helped by Desmond’s segments being kept to a minimum so no to distract from the main story.

Assassin's Creed 2 AC2, the way Sequels should be made.

Desmond’s alter ego is his distant relative – Ezio, a resident of Italy during the Renaissance in the late 15th century. His story kicks off with him finding out his father is an Assassin and his family is the victim of a political plot, and is then unable to prevent the hanging of his father and two brothers. This then leads him to take over his fathers work and become an Assassin. Ezio’s is then trained up by his uncle Mario after a few tutorial lessons you are ready to take your revenge!

Overall AC2 still isn’t without its flaws, but the work the Ubisoft has put in to make it a more appealing game is abundantly clear, the new mission design gives the game a fresher pace and makes it easier to play. Where as AC1 gave the player limited objectives so the mission just became stale. ACII brings a much better variety of missions from the usual assassinations to flying across the gorgeous scope of the game world in Leonardo Da Vinci’s flying machine. What results is a sprawling adventure with a cinematic scope with easily eight-hours of some the finest entertainment you can find.
