Orange Five Pro
The basics
At £2,469, the Orange Five Pro is an excellent mountain bike. It's not cheap, but it's a lot more affordable than some of its rivals, swapping carbon components for aluminium in a bid to keep costs down. It's an evolution rather than an all-new bike, with previous versions winning various awards.
The good
The thing we like the most about the Orange Five Pro is its beautiful damping. It turns into corners with no effort at all, and it really is one of the best handling mountain bikes we've seen. It's not the lightest bike on the market, but the extra weight helps it to dig in and turn corners.
Build quality on the Orange Five Pro is outstanding. The frame is make out of aluminium, and although it's not as light as some of the full carbon options, it is incredibly tough.
It's easy to set up the suspension on the Orange Five Pro, and it offers up to 140mm of travel for ultra big bumps or rough terrain. Although the Orange Five Pro lacks stand-out features compared to more expensive bikes, it's a fantastic all-rounder, and an incredibly easy bike to ride.
The bad
The Orange Five Pro may be a fantastic all-rounder, but it doesn't have any of the flashy features found on more expensive bikes. If you want a bike so you can brag about carbon brakes or a carbon frame, the Orange Five Pro isn't the bike for you.
The bottom line
The Orange Five Pro shows just how good a mountain bike can be, even if it doesn't have a high-end finishing kit or the latest damper technology. Instead, the Orange Five Pro is perfectly set up and balanced, also offering a semi-affordable way of having huge fun when mountain biking.
