TomTom Go Live 1000
The basics
The TomTom Go Live 1000 is a satnav with a 4.3-inch capacitive touchscreen, HD Traffic updates, a free year’s subscription to TomTom’s Live services, speed camera locations and both IQ and Eco Routes.
The good
The Go Live 1000 is speed demon of a satnav, able to calculate routes and re-route a lot faster than its rivals.
Factor in its excellent Live services (free for a year), which serve up real time traffic updates, the locations of mobile speed cameras and the ability to find locations using Google’s Local Search tech, and you’ve got a fantastically capable, fast-acting satnav.
It’s £47 per year to keep up your subscription after the initial year too – which is a big reduction on the previous subscription price. The Go Live 1000 also has a new type of cradle, which uses magnets: this lets you snap the satnav into place in moments.
The bad
There’s isn’t much to pick at here, except perhaps the price. The Go Live 1000 is more expensive than most of its rivals, and if you don’t find yourself using satnav regularly you might not feel like you’re getting the best value for money.
The bottom line
TomTom has delivered yet another top notch satnav. The Go Live 1000 is fast, accurate and packed with useful extras.

Re Mr Plested's article about tech for truck drivers.......it would be real helpful, as most sat navs dont come with 'bridge heights','weight limits' etc. Thanks team!!! Gary.

I have this and I think its absolutely rubbish. 1) The Magnet mount is a pain in the ass. 2) The speech recognition software is absolutely rubbish. 15 times to say a place name is really. 3) Its gets road blocks wrong. Extremely wrong. 4) Its very much over priced. 5) It some times cannot connect to live network. 6) The soft keeps saying on the computer Updates ready, then when you connect it says no updates.

Just got the go live 1000 europe from Halfords for £225! (with an on line voucher) Great unit and the live services work well. A bit limited at the moment as it uses a new platform rather than the TomTom Home so you can't currently link points from google maps to your favourites. Also eagerly awaiting the ability to change pictures voices etc. They seem to have launched a great device but are behind on the software.

I bought my TomTom 1000 Live early January for £196 from Laskys including Vat and Delivery but due to the Vat increase it is around £220 or more now from other online sites. I have used it a few times now and it seems to be very quick and easy to use. The only problem which you do have is that TomTom need to update firmware or software, so you can update maps and voices. Including map share. These are not available on this model yet and the TomTom web site still says that this will change....lets see..?? My Rating: 7 out 10 due to the update problem. A good SatNav.

i have this unit and it is totally over priced and over rated ,my unit keeps crashing (a common tom-tom problem) has no limited speed option and has a bicycle route option lol the battery life is at most 2.5 hours!!!! short ride or what!! , a total waste of time in my view and the whole my tom-tom scenario for updates is a complete joke. i don't mean to sound so anti tom tom (i've had 3 in the past) but they have released this far too soon without proper testing.in short don't buy this yet!!!

What is the difference between TomTom Go Live 1000 and TomTom Via LIVE 125? The comparison between these 2 devices on the Halfords website shows it only to be a "Text to Speech" capability which hardly seems worth the £50.00 price difference. Thanks Paul

Great if all you need is 'turn by turn' guidance. However, if you switch to the map mode, you are presented with roads picked out in white, on a light grey background. This, coupled with a reflective screen, makes it completely useless.
