ASICS Gel-Kayano 16
The basics
As well as being incredibly light the Asics Gel-Kayano 16 features the largest cushioning system in its series to absorb every pound of the pavement. The Flex Groove design promises a constant line with each stride, making it more efficient whilst decreasing fatigue. The women's version features female specific technology to accommodate for changes in women's hormonal levels, which causes changes in the foot arch. Added Plus3 tech reduces the load and tension to reduce the risk of injury.
The good
The Asics Gel in the rear and forefoot really cushions the feet, reducing the force on each foot as they move forward. The result is a pair of trainers less likely to induce injury. Biomorphic Fit tech and isometric lacing also helps to offer a better fit to reduce the risk of blisters or irritation, often caused by long running sessions.
It excels at weight distribution too - an area other similar trainers have struggled. Running sessions feel just as light on the treadmill as they do on pavement. A Guidance Line running down underneath the sole also helps runners maintain a better running line and gait. This can only further prevent training-induced foot ailments.
The bad
At £120 they don't come cheap.
The bottom line
If you're any kind of serious runner then these trainers are one of the best around. They're incredibly light on the run and offer superb balance, stability and comfort to soften the impact on your feet and knees to prevent injury. Pricey, but worth it.

Best running shoes I've ever had. I picked them up at Sportsdirect.com for 80quid, so now they're good value now. Five stars well deserved!

Please be aware that the Asics gel kayano 16 (S/S 2010) are £89.95 or £90 from soleobsession.co.uk and Amazon respectively. The £80 quoted by other commentees, are actually the Asics gel kayano 15 (A/W 2009) design, which are blue/white in colour. I am currently eagerly awaiting my s/s 2010 design which are white/gold in colour.
