Sony Playstation 3 Slim
The basics
When it first launched a couple of years back, the Sony Playstation 3 offered unprecedented power and gaming performance. In a bid to keep it fresh, Sony launched a new, slimmer Playstation 3. The components are pretty similar, but read on to find if it's a better option than the original PS3.
The good
The styling of the Sony PS3 Slim is a 100 per cent improvement on the original PS3. The original console may have been powerful, but it was also big and bloated, and looked out of place when sat alongside the latest slimline HD TVs. The slim Playstation 3 features a much thinner chassis, and also gets a smarter matt black finish.
Gaming was always an issue for the original PS3, and this is another area where the Sony PS3 Slim wins – although more by timing than anything else. Over the past few years, we've seen the launch of lots of major titles, finally taking advantage of the power this gaming console has to offer.
Sony also improved services along with the slimline casing, with support for features such as BBC iPlayer allowing you to use your PS3 Slim as an all-round home entertainment system.
The bad
The biggest drawback on the Sony PS3 Slim is the lack of support for older Sony PS2 games. It seems to be completely unnecessary, and fails to take into account the thousands of PS2 owners who plan on upgrading while still wanting to play some of their older games.
The bottom line
That said, the Sony PS3 Slim is still an impressive achievement, and it easily ranks among the best gaming consoles ever. Slimmer, neater and packed with features, it's definitely a must have.

Have been a loyal fan of the PS3 , very good console had one of the very first 60Gb models, unfortunately now suffering a YLOD having repaired it 4 times already. now going to get the slim model. Unfortunateley the slim model doesnt have all the connectivity and ports of the original ;-(

Firstly if anyone says that the PS3 isn't as good as an Xbox then they are terribly wrong, the PS3 comes with built-in Wi-Fi, and late models of the Xbox dont and as well the PS3 looking better and coming in higher GB models than the Xbox it has Blu-Ray built-in and 3D as a Bonus. SONY have worked very hard to beat there rivals Microsoft, and they certainly did! If your a gamer looking for a new console, then this is certainly the one for you, you can do anything and more, on a PS3.

honestly who wants to play PS2 games. Its ridiculous that people complain about that, mainly because PS2 games are terrible.

My original PS3 just died from the irritating yellow light of death with a brand new game in it on christmas day. Sony want £110 to replace it with a recon model and said we would lose the game! Sony deny any product faults, but why is the YLOD such a massive problem for thousands across the world experiencing the same issue. I've lost thousands of hours of game play and downloaded games and cannot transfer any data as the new slimline which is not compatible with the original model.
