T-Mobile G1 Google Phone

The basics

High speed 3G internet gets you online, surfing is even faster using the full touchscreen and trackball. It's got a full QWERTY keyboard makes it easy to write what you really want to say. The G1 comes with all your favourite Google services are already on board - search, IM, email and maps with GPS. Finally, it's the first phone with the Android Market so you can download the applications you want. Watch out, Apple!

The good

What? A Google product you have to pay for? This Android-powered handset is well worth raiding the online piggy bank for, delivering much of the grunt of the iPhone at a fraction of the cost. Web browsing is simply superb, even if the glorious three-inch capacitive touchscreen isn’t quite as finger-friendly as Apple’s. Threaded text messaging brings IM style to SMS, and synching with your Google Mail and Calendar is easier than falling off a particularly slippery log. The camera is better than the iPhone’s, too.

The bad

God bless HTC for believing in Android but curse it for saddling the G1 with a battery the size of a peanut – keep your charger handy at all times. Several components feel rushed: the GPS is especially power-hungry and Bluetooth doesn’t support stereo headset or modem linking. We love that the few worthwhile apps on the Android Market are free, but it’s no rival to Apple’s App Store just yet.

The bottom line

It’s early days for Android and while the G1 kicks the butt of many a Windows Mobile handset, Apple and Nokia smartphone users can feel justifiably smug, for a few more months at least.

great phone, the video streaming is great, i strongly believe that the android market will catch up to the apples app store, then over take it, my friend had an ipod touch and i have the g1. we have compared the markets and most of the apps are on both. the tilt system is very good, i would say as good as the iphone/ipod.If anybody is worrying about the chin the bends round, dont, its no problem, the typing is great. problems with the phone, the battery isnt as bad as they make out, as there are apps which can control your battery use, called power manager. there is a slight creek with the phone and a massive gap in between the keyboard and the screen.sound quality is fairly good, but not very loud. best part of this phone is video streaming.!! well worth buyin. if the iphone isnt avaliable to you. :)

I used to have it and it was a very good phone, although a little slow at times (I suspect that many apps in the android market are designed for faster processors). The keyboard is really easy to use also.
