Samsung U900 Soul
The basics
Samsung U900 Soul is a mobile phone manufactured and designed by Samsung. It has a 5 megapixel camera equipped with autofocus, video, flash, and image stabiliser. Some of its features include an organiser, T9, FM radio with RDS, multiple audio format recognition, and picture editing. The phone comes in pink and silver colours.
The good
What? A touch phone as responsive as the iPhone? Surely not? Surely yes! The Soul uses a ‘Magic Touch’ contextual touch user-interface that adjusts for different functions, combined with a few mechanical buttons, to ensure an ultra-smooth operation. The 5-meg snapper also takes detailed pics, especially in close-up, but it’s the music player that’s got real thrust. Using a B&O ICE power amp, it pumps out fat audio from the FM radio or MP3 player.
The bad
The 2.2-inch display isn’t the biggest for viewing web pages, but the NetFront browser deals with this by letting you zoom in and out. Like skiving school kids, there are two other notable absentees: Xenon flash and Wi-Fi. Damage is limited though, by the inclusion of a power LED and HSDPA respectively - so you can still watch crappy videos of dogs surfing on YouTube.
The bottom line
The U900, thanks to a princely design and highly attentive ‘magical’ touch UI, has more soul than a James Brown and Ray Charles lemon sole eating contest.

My partner has had one of these for the last week. The multi-purpose touch pad lights up with different icon shapes depending on the function you are in. She likes the bling aspect of this as do her friends. I am less impreessed since they are only monochrome yellow which is more old tech than cutting edge to me, also the menus are extremely slow to scroll through and require considerable force on the touch pad to select an option. The 5mp camera produces giant fuzzy pictures, when I would rather have smaller sharp pictures. Still if you can shrink them down to 3mp on your PC they might look okay. Its not really the point though is it. The phone has an occasional bug where opening the phone to answer a call results in the screen turning off, only restored by turning the phone off and on again. Phone may be going back to see if they can fix the latter bug.

as regarding the lower comment, the colour of the touch pad can be changed but still is pretty retro, the camera is decent but you can change the quality to fine yet it is still mediokre quality. and i have never experienced the bug,

I have had this phone for about 12 months, i have found that the touch panel is great when you first use the phone but after a couple of months i have found that i dosnt seem to excite me as it did before and it seems somewhat silly to have a touch panle which is so small and sometimes slow, on the other hand the camara and flash is one of the best i have seen across the world of phones and the slick chrome exterior is very inviteing, overall i would give this phone 6 out of 10, its a good phone but could be so much better.
