Samsung Galaxy i7500
The basics
The Samsung Galaxy i7500 is Samsung's first attempt an Android mobile smartphone and has a jaw-dropping AMOLED touchscreen. Elsewhere the handset sports 3G, Wi-Fi, GPS and a five-megapixel camera to keep you interested.
The good
First things first, the Galaxy's spec sheet stomps all over the iPhone's, mainly because of a five-megapixel camera and a stunning AMOLED screen. Other plain old LED screens just can't match the sheer awesomeness of this AMOLED offering. Turn it on and it's unbelievably bright and bursting with colour. It's one of the best panels we've seen on a phone. Then of course it has Androis, so you know the user interface is going to be as simple as a Big Brother contestant.
The bad
It's just a shame Samsung hasn't been taking note of the latest crop of Android handsets. Just whacking the Google OS on a phone doesn't curt it anymore. You need to put an awesome skin on the top, just like the HTC Hero has done with Sense. Elsewhere in the negative column the keyboard on the Samsung Galaxy i7500 is really poorly laid out when switching between numbers and letters.
The bottom line
The Samsung Galaxy i7500 may have a couple of flaws, but it's still the best specced-out Android handset around. And that AMOLED screen is its party piece!

I've just bought one, sim free, and I'm wondering wether I need any special contract or tariff for it to be fully utilised. Will 'free internet' be enough to use all of the capabilities of a smart phone?

Yes, free internet will be definately needed as this is an always connected phone. Google applications such as googlemail etc will take care of the rest.

I have recently got this phone and it really is very good and the apps you can download fr free and really good. Run Keeper & Navigation are as good as any Tom Tom I have used. My only complaint is why with a screen so big can you only get a small text windo to read & write your texts?
