Samsung F480 Tocco
The basics
Samsung F480 Tocco is a high-specification touch screen phone that comes in a very slim package. The phone features a 5 megapixel camera, FM radio, music player, 3G web browser, and a huge memory. It also has Bluetooth (v2.0 with A2DP), and is already SMS, MMS, EMS, and email enabled.
The good
With the iPhone 3G firmly in its sights, the stylish Tocco employs a big touch-sensitive display as its control function. It's super slim too, slimmer than the iPhone. And while browsing moves speedily enough thanks to HSDPA powered 3G, the one feature that exceeds expectations is the five-megapixel camera, bulging with useful add-ons including solid auto-focus, face detection and even Smile Shot - a function that recognises when someone's smiling, then focuses on it. Clever, no?
The bad
Sadly the touchscreen itself is no match for the iPhone's, and the touch controls lack the fluidity and ease of use that's so prevalent in Apple's blower. Still, you can drag and drop shortcut icons on to the home screen, plus load it with web-accessing widgets - just don't expect super-slick scrolling around web pages. Oh, and the lack of Wi-Fi is a shocker.
The bottom line
The Tocco laughs at the iPhone 3G's puny camera, then shies away with its tail between its legs when the iPhone laughs at its clumsy touch controls.

its disgusting, samsung, sony erricson and lg should just give up, there isnt going to be a match to the incredible iphone, the only possible match so far is the HTC Hero but it still doesnt have a well established App Store or iTunes behind it which makes the iphone that bit more attractive. Just give up lg and samsung is what i say, and go back to making cute little slider phones that mums and grans like.

As it happens, I have this phone. I am very happy with it far as most things go, the camera is brilliant, and it deals with media well. But as far as texting and email are concerned the onscreen numeric keypad is not good enough, and there is not enough room for an onscreen QWERTY keyboard. There should also be a flick scroll function, which there is not. It is also a phone you can easily get bored with. Overall, if you want it for a phone and camera, it's fine. But anything else look elsewhere.

I have this phone and although the touch screen is good it is also it's downfall - when I listen to voice mail messages, and don't have it on speaker phone so that all around me can hear my messages, I have three times accidentally touched the "number 3 button" with my ear and deleted the message before I've listened to it... very annoying, the last time the phone nearly went out the window. I now use the Tocco Ultra as this has a seperate key pad but it doesn't feel as good as the Tocco and no leather flip over screen protector.
