Nokia N86
The basics
The Nokia N86 is an eight-megapixel cameraphone from the Finnish company. As well as an LED flash it also has 3G, HSDPA, and a 2.6-inch, 240x320 AMOLED screen. It measures 51x103x17mm and weighs 149g.
The good
The greatest Nokia cameraphone yet. Sure there are a couple of 12-megapixel cameraphones coming out, but the Nokia N86's eight-megapixel offering serves up pictures so crisp and large you'd be forgiven for thinking they were taken by a dedicated compact camera. The Carl Zeis optics are working overtime here, and even the dual flash, although just LED, still works well in low-light conditions. Plus the benefit of no Xenon? It means the handset's cheaper than most 8MP offerings. It's not just about the snapper, though. The N86 also has that gorgeous AMOLED screen that makes your snaps look lustworthy. Plus there's HSDPA, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and 8GB of storage space for your tunes, vids and snaps.
The bad
The lack of a Xenon flash does take the shine off what would otherwise have been a killer cameraphone. For a phone which prides itself on its camera, it's a pretty big oversight. That said, the picture quality is still high, so we're prepared to overlook this misdemeanor... just this once though Nokia!
The bottom line
The Nokia N86 takes awesome snaps and rightfully deserves its place alongside the Sony Ericsson C905 and LG Viewty Smart as a superb cameraphone.

Hello;I am seriously considering buying this phone to replace a camera -especially with a mind to holiday use.Are there any problems with seeing the screen in direct or bright sunlight? (Source:gsmarena.com) The camera I will be replacing has a screen that is virtually useless in those conditions.Your thoughts and help would be greatly appreciated ,thankyou!

All I can say is it's better than a scratched w910i screen!

the new OLED screens are more differcult to see in directlight than the older LCD screens. I have had a n85 and now upgraded to a n86. The n86 is a cracking phone, the camera is very good. Not done any darker shots requiring the flash yet... but as with most cameras a flash is only any good if you are within a 5 metre upto max 10metre range. the phone is is much faster than the n85 too which makes it a good phone to use for normal everyday stuff.. my only word of warning is to ensure you update the firmware to latest available as nokia are still fixing some little bugs here and there.

i have had the new n86 8mp for 4 days now and have been nothing but impressed with its performance having just upgraded from a nokia n95 8gb, the camera is very good but i am suprised that the camera lens size is smaller than my n95 8gb, a 2.4-4.8 on n86 and an 2.8-5.6 on n95

The Nokia N86 8MP is the pinnacle of Nokia's work on the Nseries over the past 3-4 years, even as newer devices move the family in strange directions. : http://www.cellhut.com/Nokia-N86-Unlocked-Quadband-GPS-WIFI-8MPCAMERA-GSM-Cell-Phone-15756.html
