Nokia E66

G-Rating

Rating of 4

The basics

This Quad-band slider phone from Nokia measures 107.5x49.5x13.6mm, weighs 121g and has a 2.4-inch screen. The battery lasts 7.5 hours (talk time) and 264 hours in standby. The MicroSD memory card slot allows for up to a maximum of 8GB storage. HSDPA, email support, built-in GPS with Nokia Maps, and a 3.2-megapixel camera, video player and MP3 player make up the spec list.

The good

If you want a ‘corporate’ phone without a QWERTY keyboard that can do everything short of ironing your jockeys, then this is it. At 13mm thin it’s more streamlined than previous E models, and its reflective stainless steel front adds a touch of design class. Performance-wise, it’s every bit the equal of its big brother - the E71. Web browsing is super-speedy courtesy of HSDPA and built-in Wi-Fi, onboard GPS and Nokia 2.0 maps provide a competent satnav, while the sharp-focusing 3.2-megapixel camera is the same as the E71’s. Finally an unbelievably user-friendly email set-up procedure and a neat move that cuts off the ringtone just by turning the phone face down on the table, should keep city boys happy.

The bad

It’s heavy, but that’s down to the stainless steel trim. And although that looks nice, it's smart shell is a fingerprint magnet.

The bottom line

A few minor (and we mean minor) niggles aside, this is a sharp and classy slider that brilliantly embraces the business and everyday world with aplomb.
