LG KU990 Viewty

The basics

The Viewty from LG is one of the most sought after phones in the LG line. It 900/1800/1900 GSM compatible and is a 3G phone, operating at HSDPA 2100, at the same time. It weighs 112g and its dimensions are 103.5 x 54.4 x 14.8 mm. It is has a wide touch screen user interface. It is capable of playing MP3 tunes and has a 100MB shared memory.

The good

Getting decent pictures from a cameraphone can be as tricky as getting coherent English sentences from Mickey Rourke. The good news is the Viewty serves up 5MP photos that are crisp and clear as a BBC news reader, and surprisingly sharp movies even using the super slo-mo 120fps setting. The lens is autofocus, with an image stabiliser that just about works. The large, haptic touchscreen copes well with text messages and emails, and overall the effortless navigation feels more like Nokia than LG.

The bad

Wrestling with the little jog wheel around the lens can put greasy smears on your pictures – what happened to the lens cover, LG? And now you mention it, where exactly are we meant to put the dangling stylus? Don’t be fooled by LG’s claim that this is a ‘professional level cameraphone’ – it’s a step up from most mobile snappers but it struggles in low light and the flash needs more pop.

The bottom line

If you don’t need the power and flexibility of an iPhone or a N-series Nokia, the Viewty is a smackdown photo winner. Or, mmenmming grunnumm frunng, as Mickey would say.

this phone might look good but its lack of features let it down, it might have a 5mp camera (which is ok) but the orkward stylus will scrach the screen and you will need it because the small tool bar it is a must. also the touch screen is owkward

i have had this phone for 17 months and and away to update it tomorow. it is a good phone but has many bad points. the main one is the soft touch screen, it is so easy to break and, no joke, i am on my 6th one, im glad i took insurance. Another bad point is the camara, i am a very keen photographer but this camara is rubbish. i had a sony K800i and its camara is much better. Also this screen can often play up for no reason. I like the qwerty keyboard but can be had to use on the move or in class as you have to look at the screen.

I have this phone for close to 2 years, basically literally when it came out. This is a good phone but it does have its fair share of bugs for example the camera is difficult to use without it becoming blurry but that could just be me, the flash support on the internet is appalling as in i've yet to get it to work and battery can break down after a year or so if like me you use the radio pretty much every day and the touchscreen can be a little temperamental at times, eg when you unlock it and try to start using it it'll act a little grumpy by not doing anything for a couple seconds and then itll input all of the 'touches' one after another rather quickly make it vibrate quite a bit. However the good things are it has a radio with a decent enough reception and it does work rather well, I've had it for this long and I havent had any real problems, it works well, it doesnt tend to complain and as long as you are happy with learning a new setup since it does take a little bit to learn a different layout, this phone is a good phone for anybody. (I take no responsibility for this next bit so if you do this its your own fault but, for some reason when you got to the very last week possible in the calender by going to december 2099 in month view, then go to week view and go beyond december 2099 it'll have a fit, as in it'll do the logging out noise and go black for 30 secs maybe a minute or so and then go to your home screen but that was on my version and on a couple of my mates)

I have had this phone for close to a year now and I havent had any problems. all you people that are complaining about it are wrong, it is perfectly fine (unless there is a complete moron holding it, which seems to be the case)

i have had this phone for two years now and cannot wait to change it. its lack of applications is very disappointing. the cameras flash has broke 4 times and i rarely even use it. another point is if it is in your pocket with other things like Keys, Ipods, pens, wallets the phone regally unlocks its self and i have had a occasions were the phone has taken photos in my pocket or called people. as well as this the touch screen can be temperamental at times
