HTC Wildfire

G-Rating

Rating of 3

The basics

Although smartphone manufacturers are offering bigger and bigger screens on mobile phones - with the latest Samsung Infuse 4G boasting a huge 4.5-inch screen, not everybody wants a big phone. Sometimes, small is better, which is where the 3.2-inch HTC Wildfire comes in.

The good

The HTC Wildfire sits at the affordable end of HTC's touchscreen smartphone empire, yet it still has a lot to offer. The 3.2-inch display makes it one of the smaller touchscreen handsets on the market, and it slips easily into pockets.

Build quality is excellent, and the Wildfire has more in common with high-end HTC handsets than budget devices. The design is smart, the optical trackpad also looks good, and this handset is more than tough enough for daily use.

The Wildfire runs Android 2.1, and it couldn't be easier to use. Features on the entry-level HTC include a 5-megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 3G connectivity.

The bad

Although the HTC Wildfire is more than capable when it comes to specs, it suffers slightly during everyday use. There's more lag than you'll find on more expensive handsets, and the small screen also means a small onscreen keyboard. The biggest compromise is the display, however, which is let down by the low 320 x 240-pixel resolution.

The bottom line

The HTC Wildfire is a good handset, but it's lacking when it comes to stand-out features. We really love the design and the compact footprint, and it's worth a look if you're on a tight budget. If you can afford to spend a little more, however, HTC has lots of other handsets with higher resolution displays and more powerful processors.

i think thats horrible! i own the wildfire and think it's way better than an iphone. Its cheaper, easier to use, has free amazing apps, great pixels, good cameras, great settings and downloadable apps and accesories, the only bad thing is the keyboard which is small but i think its worth 4/5 g's. my dad has a desire s and says the wildfire is better than his and a iphone:/

I have this phone since May and I'm very happy of it. The best quality/price phone on the market available at the moment.

The HTC is a very complex phone its design is good, not too big to look at or hold but without a case it can easilly slip out of your hand. Screen quality is very good. There are countless apps to choose from, from the Android market that will keep you entertained and my most favourite feature of the phone is the Portable Wi-fi Hotspot..which allows you to create your own wireless network from your phone that is password protected. I use that feature on the 3 network with an unlimited internet contract and it is extremely fast.. perfect for any surfing on the internet as-long as your computer has wi-fi. The downsides for me are the keyboard which is impossible for me to use i hate it i always press the wrong buttons and the home key is an inconvenience sometimes like when im typing something and my hand brushes against it and I lose everything I just wrote..annoying. BUT the good outways the bad so definately a great buy.

fantastic battery life and i suppose it looked good too. also htc sense adds a lot of fluidity to the android system. however, appalling internal memory, and because a lot of apps won't store to the card, i had to watch the apps i downloaded. not that half the apps worked anyway because the phone performed as well as a rover. only the most basic games didn't lag and many applications crashed frequently. camera had a decent resolution and flash but was quite slow to respond. got a samsung galaxy s2 now, and suffice to say it's a huge step forward.

I own a wildfire and what i like about it is its 5mp camera with LED flash which is great but i am dissapointed with the memory as i like to download apps off the market and even though i have a sd card it still says low memory, also the battery life is alright but not great, for the price which you pay (not a lot) it is a pretty neat phone

I find it is good enough for my needs. My husband and I got one each and it has been a life line for him he checks his mail and social networking sites whenever he wants to now. He can send emails without having to go to the computer (he has a physical disability).
