Blackberry Bold

G-Rating

Rating of 4

The basics

The Blackberry Bold comes in an elegant black design with brilliant display. This smartphone was designed for optimum performance with its built-in Wi-Fi allowing users to check emails, IM, mobile streaming and connect to the Internet. Enjoy clear images and video viewing with this ultimate device. The Blackberry Bold also has a built-in GPS for people on the go. Edit and update your documents with WordToGo and SlideToGo. With its integrated organizer you will never miss a meeting or an appointment anymore. Dimensions are at 114L x 66W x 14T mm.

The good

Put a QWERTY keyboard on a phone and that's enough to get the sexy death knell ringing as if Simon Cowell was approaching in a pair of turquoise speedos. Thankfully that's not the case here. The Bold is a proper head-turner with its curvy chassis, tactile leatherette rear panel and revamped style. Plus watching YouTube vids on its outstandingly sharp VGA screen (it's the best we've seen on a BlackBerry) is actually a pleasurable experience. Yes, it's got Wi-Fi, GPS, and an integrated 3.5mm headphone jack, but what this does better than any other mobile, is texting and composing emails. Who'd a thunk?

The bad

Alas, the extra processing power means the Bold's got a big ol' chunky body (albeit a sexy one). But the biggest faux pas here is the same problem that afflicted the iPhone - a paltry auto-focus-deficient two-megapixel snapper.

The bottom line

The Bold continues BlackBerry's tradition of superb text/email-based mobiles, but now it's got HSDPA, GPS, a superb screen and - above all in style! If it wasn't for the two-meg camera we could have been looking at top marks.

I've had this phone for a few months, I think this is the best phone i have had since getting my first contract, there was only two problems with the phone which one is mentioned on the run down of the phone which is the camera, the other when first getting the phone, my contract had to change to include the blackberry option pack with 3, and there helpful staff forgot to change this over so did not have the blackberry capability for first few days but got it sorted asap.

I have a bold and don't recommend it. The good is as explained above - fantastic for email. The bad; Most youtube vids do not require the lovely screen - so you've got a nice screen, but most content I get is just poor quality. So the screen is wasted. The add on downloadable apps are nearly all rubbish - not worth your the time to download - the better ones you have to pay for and still don't seem to be very good compared to iPhone apps. I use a Mac - the software Blackberry now provide for syncing doesn't work with my bold properly - I can sync calendars and addresses etc. BUT NOT music. The first time I tried syncing my entire bold got wiped - nothing on it - I had to go to Blackberry support directly to sort the problem. They said it was my fault as I connected the USB cable via a hub that didn't have it's own power supply - this meant their phone support team then charged me $55 for helping me to reload my operating system via Blackberry software over the web. You can probably tell I'm not a happy bunny about this and will buy an iPhone in about a week and sell the Bold. I hope this is published in order that people are aware of these pitfalls.

I have had my blackberry bold about 2 months now and i love the phone. the camera on mine is a 3.2MP this is the only problem with the phone a to date. I have to agree with michael that some of the apps are useless however the comments are typical of an apple fanboy. I am not criticising apple computers as i own 2 macs i just believe that people should open their mind. I have shown my blackberry to a few friends and they all agree that for business the Blackberry is better that the iphone. As a summary the blackberry bold is a great phone but only let down by 2 things 1. The camera only 3.2MP 2.. Memory is only 256MB By the time the operating system is running this leaves approx 125MB left. However the average size of an app is approx 1MB a lot of them are less.

ive had my blackberry for seven months and ive had nothing but trouble with it. it cuts off convosations after 60 seconds and completely freezes all of the time. it decides when to turn itself off and sometimes decides nto too come back on, i would not recommend anybody buying this phone ive had so much hassle. at the moment im at the stage that the phone switched itself off and will not come back on at all, the battery life is full and yet the phone still wont come on, im taking it back to the shop today and hopefully they will do something!!!
