Had a Satmap Active 10 Plus for Christmas - Fab, particualrly when we lost the visual signs of a route ( in the middlle of nowhere) due to heavy snow. I am a convert and keep wanting to try it out. Sue

Bought mine from Amazon, with the full UK 50000 map card. I can't fault it. By far the best GPS for walking in the UK.

You need one of these, it is the Bees Knees. Just turn it on and go! No need to have a detailed plan just get out and about, Change your route plan if you want and go a differant way. You read the O.S. map like any other O.S. map but you will never get lost or be missplaced. The LiPol battery will last all weekend even in -4 degs C. Its robust, my kids carry it, and yes it gets knocked on rocks etc but just change the screen when there are too many scratches and hey, it's new again. My only concern is that not all walkers and cyclists have them. Great for Geo-Cache.

Excellent device. Of course no excuse to leave a paper map behind but brilliant to use. I especially like the planning functions allowing me to set up a walk within my capabilities and keeping me to track. The battery lasts (for me) for ages.

Been thinking of getting one of these for a while now but am wondering if the latest offerings from Memory Map (Adventurer 2800) and Garmin (Oregon or Dakota with Garmin GB Discoverer OS Mapping) are better and maybe cheaper on the mappnig. Would be good to see a review of these in the next Gadg season or in the internet episodes ;-)

What attracted me to this device was the ability to have loads of maps stored on it rather than carrying them around in my panniers while cycle touring, for that it works reasonably well although you don't get the margin that you get on an os map so have to know the symbols,so far the rechargeable battery has failed to live up to standards, but I didn't charge it before using it as it was supposedly 3/4 charged although it was flat in four hours even in hibernate mode and when fully charged the longest it lasts is 10 hours which is now where near as long as advertised, the lithium AA batteries though lasted 12 hours and are still nearly fully charged, the device is very hard to make out in the sunlight even with the screen on maximum brightness so a tinted filter would be a good idea, but the thing that really needs improving is the fact that when planing a route it assumes you're a bird or a horse not a bicycle so always uses straight lines,so a road mode following country lanes would be better although you can always keep the marker to your left or right and roughly follow it,despite this units IP rating it doesn't like rain at all,if like me you use it on a bicycle I suggest you cover it with cling film or water will get in behind the screen ,not the removable cover, but the screen it self, also the battery cover isn't a flush fit so water may get in there during a downpour which is very disappointing because it's promised water resistance along with battery life were main selling points for me,this gadget though is reasonably well built with excellent buttons and the customer services from SATMAP is great, but it is very over priced,if it cost half as much I would probably still be weary of buying it for cycling due to battery life and wet weather performance, but as an electronic map it performs very well.
