Sony Vaio X Series
The basics
Sony’s Vaio X Series is the company’s new slimline laptop. It measures just 13.9mm, which makes the Macbook Air seem fat by comparison. And it's also crazily light – just 780g to be precise. It might feel a little flimsy, but if you put it in a laptop bag, you'll almost forget it's there.
The good
The ultra-slim proportions of the X Series have to be seen to be believed. Despite this,it comes with Windows 7, a choice of either 128 or 256GB flash memory, and two USB ports (that’s one more than the Macbook Air).
The keyboard is nicely spaced out, with ample room between each key, and there’s a proper mouse trackpad with gesture controls, unlike the nipple on the even smaller P Series.
At 10.1-inches, the screen is an inch smaller than the Air’s, but it’s bright and the colours are vivid. A handy Wireless switch lets you turn off Wi-Fi and preserve battery quickly and easily. And the Atom processor on the Vaio X Series is fine for basic applications, but don’t expect it to run Fallout 3.
The bad
One of the compromises of the slimness is there’s no CD drive, although built-in 3G mobile broadband will get you online wherever you are. The trackpad is little fiddly, especially when pinchig to zoom. And we’d advise the matte black finish over the glossy one, the latter attracting fingerprints like a magnet.
Also, this being Sony, and a flagship slim laptop at that, the Vaio X Series will cost you.
The bottom line
Almost magically slim and light, the Sony Vaio X Series is one of the sexiest laptops ever made. But you'll need deep pockets for such a light lappie.

What a fantastic laptop! It looks super sexy and has attracted lots of attention from the rest of the family. It was well worth the hefty price tag and I've almost forgotten the ear bashing the missus gave me, lol. Forget about the bad points.. no cd drive.. who cares! mobile 3g more than makes up for it for me. If your purchasing make sure you get the bigger 256GB flash memory, no much more so why not. Also bought an extra charger for it from MonkeyBits to make life easier, keep one at home and the other at work. That way you don't even notice it tucked away in your briefcase. Bottom line buy one!!
