Apple MacBook Pro
The basics
The new 17-inch MacBook Pro finally brings the top end NVIDIA 9600M GT graphics, all in one aluminium shell, redesigned keyboard and all in one trackpad to the big brother of Apple's laptop line.
The good
Apple could have just taken the new 15 inch MacBook Pro's innards (4 gigs of RAM and up to a 2.93GHz Core 2 Duo processor) in a bigger shell and clocked off. But Apple pulled an all-nighter, throwing in extra goodies like an epic, 8 hour battery, 3 USB ports and a dazzling 1920x1200 full HD screen that prove that size really is everything, chaps. Oh, and the 17-inch MacBook Pro also happens to be the most beautiful laptop that we've ever laid eyes on. Ever, ever, ever, ever.
The bad
Apple is still refusing to put Blu-ray in its computers, so you'll have to find HD video elsewhere. And while that battery lasts a good long while, it's built in so when wireless lifetime drops after the zillionth charge, you ain't ever prising it out for a replacement - you'll have to pack the whole thing off in a parcel and wait for for Steve Jobs to get his chisel out.
The bottom line
You could spend all your working day just staring at the 17-inch MacBook Pro, it's that gorgeous. But if you find the strength to pop the lid, you'll also discover it's the one of the most powerful computers on Earth that you can yank from the wall and walk around with. Go without food, sleep rough on the streets, do whatever you have to do to scrape together £2k for this - it's worth it.

Wow. Really nice, I know very well a I own one. Might not have a Blu-Ray reader or a few other nice features like other laptops but it certainly has the 'want' factor. Very nice glossy screen and nice aluminium shell.

I've probably used this MacBook a hundred times now and still don't own one. If there's a MacBook to choose this is definitely the one. It's a lot more powerful, easier to use with the new features on the trackpad and is a lot lighter than the MacBook. It's fun to use at college, though I should be doing work..

I got my MacBook Pro 13" 2.4GHz two week's ago. The novelty still hasn't worn off! Love my Mac. After using it, i really don't like using windows machines (Haven't liked them since I was 8). Mac are so inspiring and professional, but still cool. They've always had the style and the pure amazing engineering, but this is the best they've done! Since starting developing software and more with the free tools from Apple, i've wanted too apple development once I have finished school and University. So whatever your age or lifestyle, well recommend getting one!

Got the 15" dual graphic chips MBP. Brilliant piece of hardware, a joy to use. The only slight down side to this laptop is that it can get rather hot when you it switches over to the more power graphic chip. Switched over to Mac some years ago and never looked back. Yes, they are more expensive than MS Windows PC but in my view a small price to pay for not having it crashes on you all the time. And it hardly slows down, I also have a Macbook which is coming up to 6 years old now and it is still as fast as the day I bought it. I have converted other people on to Macs and they also not looked back since.

Pleeeeease HELP.! We need a new desk top. We aren't the most computer savvy couple but are both used to MS office (through work & current PC). I reeeally want an iMac, mainly becoz it's shiney & cool looking with a fantastic screen. My other half however needs MS office for her business accounts & is v.worried about switching to a system we won't understand... Plus for iMac money you can get a lot of PC (which PC is another question!)... What do I do folks.?????

I've got the 15" MacBook Pro and it is awesome. It's by far the best laptop I have ever owned and performs all my daily tasks without skipping a beat. To comment on the bad points on the review, MacBook Pro batteries not only have an excellent daily life (i regularly use mine between 4 and 8 hours a day between charges and don't need to switch it off when closed and not in use), but it also has a lifespan of about 5 years. After about a year on my 17" inch Sony Vaio i was down to about 20 minutes and the replacement cost is ridiculous. On the mac the replacement is about £100 including fitting and can be done at my local Apple Approved repair centre or store! So what's the problem? You don't need spare batteries and they aren't expensive to replace! As for Blu-Ray? Who cares? With internet speeds increasing and HD content online who wants another stack of discs that you need to store and can't really carry around. Just a 1 TB portable hard drive and you're sorted! I only have one regret...i wish i'd waited and got the new one with the quad core i7 sandy bridge processor and the bigger hard drive and the thunderbolt port!! :-(

hello i don't have a macbook but do you need a special rooter for the internet or can you use a normal home hub. e.g bt home hub
Report as inappropriateClareB421 April 2011
You do not need a special router. A BT home hub or any other mainstream router will work fine with any MacBook. I have bought a 17" Mac Book Pro for work and I also run WIndows 7 on it using Parallels. Switching to a Mac does not mean you cannot run Windows. This machine is slick, efficient, starts up quickly, looks fantastic, works seamlessly and makes my working life a whole lot easier and less stressful. It does not crash, freeze or lose documents.

I used to have a desktop pc and 2 laptops for my 2 college aged children. I used literally have to re- install all 3 at least 3 times a due to problems with windows. In the end I dumped windows based pcs and laptops and bought MacBooks or the children and a MacBook pro for myself. And for the last 3 years have never had to re-build any of the three(apart from upgrading from Leopard to Snow leopard. It just works! I will never ever go back to windows.

I really want one, it's the only thing in life that I want and I would go with out food or water for a day just to get a MacBook Pro for the big hole in life to fill, when I leave my parents house that is the first thing I am going to buy because it like a sticky toffee pudding with extra sticky toffee or a caramel mucflury with extra caramel so I think you get the hint on what Im trying to do!!!

"The most powerful laptop to date" - WRONG! THAT'S WRONG! What about the Asus G73 series? What about the Alienware m series? What about the Sager Pro series? Any one of those laptops would completely TRUMP ANY MBP to date.

Amazing, I bought this laptop just after christmas because I need a mac so I can use Logic pro 9 for college (music software) and it is perfect, and what not many people say about is that it is made of aluminium so it's pretty darn strong, also the app market is great for free games and other things, I totally and strongly recommend this to anyone.
