Acer Aspire G7700 Predator

G-Rating

Rating of 4

The basics

The Acer Aspire G7700 Predator is a dedicated Windows Vista gaming PC with Nvidia nForce 780th SLI-capable graphic chipset and four hard drive bays (allowing RAID). Configurations include Intel Core 2 quad-core processors, up to 8GB RAM, 7.1 audio support and Blu-ray optical drive. Ships with gaming mouse and keyboard.

The good

There are two good reasons to bolt Acer’s flagship PC to your gaming den floor. Firstly, it’s probably worth more than anything else in the house. Secondly, you won’t have to worry about the Predator’s aggressive angular jaws going on a high-tech rampage when its over-clocked quad-core computer brain achieves sentience and decides to eliminate puny humankind. As long as you’re in charge, though, this digital pitbull makes the ideal gaming partner – it’s smart, fast and hungry, with multiple RAID hard drives, every connection known to mankind, easy upgrading and even cool LED illumination for night-time gameplay.

The bad

It looks tougher than it is, so no kicking the plastic shell or flimsy swing arms when you lose a bout. While the gaming mouse and keyboard are OK, it’s always annoying have to pay for accessories you probably already own.

The bottom line

A snarling, sneering powerhouse of a gaming PC, capable of almost infinite expansion (if you’ve got the cash). If you still can’t vanquish your opponents with the Predator on your side, the problem is in your fingers, my friend.

or do what anyone can do, simply put away your money and stay away from the high street and build your own machine, for alot less money and alot more performance like me, pc better spec than thing for only 600 quid, and that includes, 2 gfx cards, new cpu, 8 gb ram, 3tb hdd's, motherboard, psu.

Those cases are ugly and they don't look like they'll have all that great airflow. Plus you'd be wanting something with an intel core i7 in it at the price they go for.. Infact looking at the spec on the amazon link its like a generation too late haha. Also i've heard stories online about a few of these getting called back to the acer family because of a fault where they might just go up in flames.. ummmm..!!

Give it an i7 and ill buy one but untill this happens whats the point, you might aswell buy one of the £900 equivilents off of novatech, plus the case looks like it will choke to death, where is the air ment to go!

ummmm guys this is pretty darn cheap. you better look up the i7, with ibuild (you choose what you want on it) if you choose almost full upgrades (monitor, keyboard and gaming mouse optional) its total price is over 3,500 pounds. lol

what is the best gaming pc out there

I prefer Alienware, it looks way cooler and you can seriously spec it. (But I haven't got one 'cries') Or a specced up Apple Mac Pro would be nice...

Seriously overpriced,... & I have an Alienware area51 x58 i7 extreme- Which as we know are overpriced for the name, but are seriously specced, this is overpriced simply because you can buy it over the counter. I paid less for my PC & it would blow this away, PC world are handy & convenient, but are expensive when it comes to buying a so called high end PC's as they simply do not cater for that market, they make money from low to mid range pc's, this is worth £1,100.00 max nearly 1/2 what they are asking.

I don't know why a show for Gadget Enthusiasts is recommending any of these PC's. Buy the bits and build your own. Its cheaper and a lot more satisfying. Take the side off your existing PC and have a look, its not as scary as you might think, and changing RAM, GPU is a piece of proverbial, please don't pay PC world £40 to slot in a stick of Ram or something! If you are not confident what bits go well together, look at the spec of a top machine, (like these) and buy the bits that go into them, the price difference will suprise you. Building a PC requires as much technical knowledge as putting lego together, infact a complicated lego kit will take longer! My mate bought a sweet PC from SCAN for £1500, pre overclocked. I took a look inside, bought exactly the same bits from SCAN and built my own for £1000, and overclocked it myself.

they need to make one with a AMD processor in it because AMD are a better make of processor

Doesn't sound too great, building your own PC is always the way to go for me ;)

these aren't gaming PCs. You need to take a look on www.scan.co.uk and look at the £11,000 jelly fish dream PC. Guaranteed to blow you away. Why do none of the above feature the intel i7 or amd quad core? The i7 is expensive put if its for gaming go for the much cheaper amd quad option as these were designed for gaming and perform just as well as the i7. The only time the i7 is far superior is when multitasking etc.

I think that machine is utterly hideous and you couldn't pay me to have that at my desk.

It's not a bad system but I think you could build a better rig for yourself if you have that much cash to blow, and possibly get more gear if you shop right. How's that for an in show challenge ? set a budget and requirement and build the best rig it's not all about consumer shelf bought..is it ?

Your really should wait a few months AMD and Intel will be releasing 6 Core Processors and AMD have already released the ATI 5000 range GPU's which are DirectX 11 compatible. These new CPU and GPU's will be better than the Playstation 3 which have a 6 Core Cell Broadband Engine and has one core disabled. Overall wait a few months if you are going to spend £1,500 to £3,000 on a Gaming PC.

there is one MAJOR thing left out of 'The Bad'... it's an Acer. I used to work in acer's 'technical' support. The pressure is entirely to answer as many calls as possible and press everyone with anything approaching a problem to the premium rate number. the repair centre is full of morons and incompetents... expect around 20% of repairs to be screwed up in some way and if something goes wrong with your windows then just buy a new copy... it'll be cheaper than trying to get any useful information from weither Acer or Microsoft. Seriously, I would still buy the Acer monitors (their repairs are done elsewhere in the country and they're far more reliable) but their computers... not a chance...

This is way too over priced and it looks fugly, and who ever said they prefer alienware is an idiot, there so over priced for what you get. I spent 900 quid on my desktop which i built myself, pretty much the same specs as as this with better grafics cardsand with more memory and storage plus the acer only runs an i5 which is so stupid considering the rest of the gear with computer, like the i5 is holding the pc back. Personally if i wanted to waste alot of money on a ready made PC i would buy a commadore hands down.

I'v had an idea, let make a sub par gaming rig, stick it in a flashy, eye grabbing case, give it a hardcore name and sell it to people who have more money than sence.... its been done you say... well i never. I also get the feeling the guy who designed this case had a hand in the Lamborghini Gallardo...

Good but never as good as getting a custom built gaming pc or even building one yourself and that case? more looks than actual design if you want it for cooling if you ever overclock your cpu.

I am sorry to say but this gaming PC is a bit too pricy than it could be you could make your own and slash the price, but there can be risk if you have no idea what you are doing, but it is too hard just dont screw up using thermal paste. And I was reading throught the comments for gaming, Intel is the better Cpu makers as they can be overclocked in tensely and work witht the graphics card from Nvidia, and Nvidia's cards are generally for the better price to performance ratios.
