ChillBlast Fusion Gemini

G-Rating

Rating of 5

The basics

The ChillBlast Fusion Gemini is a dedicated gaming PC running 64-bit Windows Vista on Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 Processor over-clocked at up to 3.5GHz. The Asus Rampage Formula motherboard with Intel X48 chipset has passive cooling from an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro system. 4GB RAM, 1TB hard drive and six spare 3.5-inch bays.

The good

The only chips that should be hot come with mushy peas and a splash of vinegar. The warmer processors, motherboards and graphics cards get, the slower they work – and today’s ultimate gaming PCs run hotter than Ana Ivanovic perspiring on Centre Court. The Fusion Gemini solves the problem with passive cooling – massive chunks of copper that radiate thermal energy and keep your PC running at top speed. With 3.5GHz over-clocking, a top flight ATi graphics card and all the memory Vista can handle, that is very fast indeed. A great peripheral package includes a 24-inch Samsung widescreen monitor, Saitek gaming keyboard, Razer Diamondback 3G gaming mouse and
Logitech X-540 5.1 Speakers.

The bad

The Fusion Gemini (wait, now it sounds like a razor) still builds up some serious heat after a couple of hours’ gaming. Seven (!) fans on board move it around a bit but they do make a noticeable whir and you can almost feel your electricity bill soaring.

The bottom line

Want to boost your gaming speed? Move to Greenland, rent a meat-locker or buy a Chill Fusion Gemini (now with added fluoride!). A very cool customer.

In what way is it passive? 7 fans and an Artic Freezer 7 doesn't sound passive to me. I disagree with the comment about heat and speed as well. The cpu should not slow down with speed but it will be shutdown by the motherboard if it gets to a ctitical temp. My current pc is a Q9550 on an Asus board with the same cpu cooler and the cpu runs at 100% all the time as I participate in distributed computing. It never gets too hot even though I oc'd it a little to 3.2GHz. The maximum memory 64bit Vista can address is a lot more than 4GB!

@Flinder Flanders Shame the memory is limited artificially (12gb i think), it would be great to see the server edition limit in a gaming PC (2tb). I'm sure you could get a top end AMD P2 for this price... maybe even a small WC loop to OC it

I have this but with a top notch GIGABYTE gaming mother board 12 GB ram 1TBHDD ATI 5850 GPU core i7 overcloclocked and a creative labs titanium graphics card all for under the price of the predator its cheaper and easier to build yourself you dont get the rubbish pre installed software and you install the operating system the way you want it !!

The 64-Bit version of Windows Vista does not have this same 4GB memory limit. Instead, each 64-bit version has a limit to the amount of addressable memory. The different 64-bit versions and their maximum memory are as follows: * Vista Basic: 8 GB * Vista Home Premium: 16 GB * Vista Business/Enterprise/Ultimate: 128+ GB
