Epson Stylus Photo R3000
The basics
The Epson Stylus Photo R3000 allows A3+ paper carriage, wither in the form of a standard sheet-feed loader, single sheet front feeding, or by using a roll of professional photo paper.
The R3000 prints using Epson’s flagship K3 ink range with vivid magenta technology and two types of black dependent on if you are printing photos or documents.
The good
We really love this printer. The prints are some of the best we have seen from any digital printer. Colours are rich and accurate to the original photo, and the finish is second to none. Only when using a loupe can you tell the difference between the prints from the R3000 and a traditional dark room print.
With professional printers, you usually have to sacrifice usability for features, but not so with the R3000. A 2.5 inch LCD screen informs you of all workings of your printer – allowing for basic setup as well as more advanced tools such as black switching, roll paper feed and roller and ink maintenance.
Connection can be made either over USB or via the Ethernet or Wi-Fi network connections.
The device features large format prints, Wi-Fi, a 2.5-inch LCD screen, fine art paper loading and more. It’s almost as if Epson took all their printing knowledge and stuck it in this one great device.
The bad
There is very little to physically fault the R3000 with. However it is not perfect. The printer uses high capacity ink cartridges, which do allow for more cost effective printing, but don’t expect refilling this printer to be cheap. Single inks cost somewhere in the region of £25 and there are 9 of them!
That said, if you are professional photographer selling prints to clients or via public showing, this cost can be recouped easily.
The bottom line
This printer is not cheap, pricing itself at just under £700, however if you have need for a professional quality, quick printer the Espon Stylus Photo R3000 is the best we have reviewed.
If you make money selling photographic prints in any way, or just want to be able to print studio quality at home, we wholeheartedly recommend the R3000.
