LG DVS450H
The basics
The LG DVS450H is a wall-mountable DVD player with progressive scan, 1080p up-scaling and DivX HD playback (via USB or external hard drive). It's also got HDMI, composite and component video output.
The good
The Law of Inverse Cool states that any gadget that looks this good can’t work for toffee. Well, chew on this, egg-heads, as the wall-mountable DVS450H turns plain old DVDs into deliciously tasty Full HD output – and can even handle DivX HD files without skipping a step. The touch-sensitive buttons and sliding disc cover are classy and there’s a surprisingly good selection of ports for a budget player. Our advice? Spend another 99p on a black marker, get rid of that LG logo and tell everyone it’s the latest player from a certain Danish hi-fi brand...
The bad
Very little. The sliding cover can make it tricky to insert and remove discs without smearing them, and don’t lose the remote - you’ll need it to access advanced features. Finally, don’t take LG’s description of the DVS450H as a ‘floating’ player too seriously – in Gadget Show tests, it sunk in our team Jacuzzi without a trace.
The bottom line
From pristine up-scaled playback to modern DivX streaming from a hard drive, this the most luxurious bit of AV kit you can buy, er, without spending much more than a hundred quid.
