Sim2 C3X Lumis Host Projector

The basics

The Sim2 C3X Lumis Host Projector is 3-chip DLP modular home cinema processor/projector using Full HD 0.9-inch DarkChip4 DMD silicon to deliver a 35,000:1 contrast ratio and a screen size of up to 300 inches. A dimmable lamp adjusts brightness from 1200 to 3000 lumens, there are six HDMI and three component inputs plus IR, IP and RS232 control options.

The good

The Host in this projector’s name could refer to its ability to present the next Academy Award ceremony, so shockingly awesome are the light beams it generates. In fact, it stands for High definition Optical Signal Transfer, a three-line fibre-optic that fire-hoses 10-bit 1080p signals from a professional grade video processor to an optically perfect light engine and a blinding (literally) 280W lamp. Contrast levels are through the roof and the blacks are deep enough to swallow rival projection systems entire. The modular design means the stunning Lumis Host can be showcased to impress guests or hidden away in the sleekest custom build, while its video brain lurks up to 250 feet away.

The bad

Can you spot incorrectly calibrated gamma? Does dot crawl keep you awake at night? Are large sums of freshly embezzled bailout cash burning a hole in your off-shore bank accounts? If your answer to those questions is not a resounding ‘yes’, then you don’t really need the Lumis Host. Move along, now, there’s nothing for you to see here.

The bottom line

This is the spot where we usually tell you to sell your grandmother to buy some amazing bit of kit but honestly, your granny simply ain’t worth it. Your nan, both parents, a couple of cousins and the dog might just cover it, although you’d better have an uncle, a sister and a niece handy for the installation and audio costs.
