Toshiba 40ZF355D
The basics
The 40-inch Toshiba 40ZF355D is part of the company's REGZA range of LCD televisions and offers full-HD, 100Hz picture processing technology in a frame that's just 23mm thin! It has three HDMI ports and a contrast ratio of 30,000:1.
The good
The Toshiba excels where colour is concerned, busting out unfeasibly bright greens, yellows and oranges that’ll have you reaching for your shades – particularly if perma-tanned presenter David Dickinson is on. It’s also one of the smaller 40-inch models around, boasting a wafer-svelte 23mm-thin frame – that means you can squeeze it into the sort of nook you’d normally expect to accommodate only a 32 or 37-inch model. Nice!
The bad
Picture quality can’t match the best out there, thanks to a bit of motion blur during fast-paced movement and rather poor black reproduction. The latter means that black objects and areas on screen look overly bright, especially when you’re watching in a dimly lit or dark room. It’s “only” got three HDMI ports as well. Ok, that’s not exactly bad, but four would have been nice.
The bottom line
The Toshiba 40ZF355D’s dinky dimensions give it a compelling selling point. Picture quality could have been better, but for the price, you're getting a super-svelte 40-inch telly. And that can't be bad!
