AeroSystem One
The basics
The AeroSystem One is an iPod speaker dock engineered by Gallic synth-prodder Jean-Michel Jarre. Compatible with most iPod and iPhone models, and connectable to other audio sources via its 3.5mm line input, it boasts 2 x 30W tweeters and a 60W subwoof
The good
Rather than just slapping his name on an audio product a la Lady Gaga, Jarre has actually invested time and apparently money in the AeroSystem One.
The sound tuning, perhaps unsurprisingly, suits electronic music best: treble is crisp and precise while bass is relatively powerful – so if your tastes run to the likes of B.O.B. rather than Bob Dylan, you’re well catered for.
The design is also a high point: the glass and metal of the column-like dock suggests a high-end product a million miles away from some plastic-clad docks.
The bad
The preciseness of the audio can sometimes come across as a little cold, which means the AeroSystem One isn’t really a go-to system for lovers of rich rock & roll or classical fare. There are also some aspects of the design that could use improvement: the different iPod dock adapters, for instance, are made of cheap plastic that doesn’t fit the otherwise high-end feel.
The bottom line
While the AeroSpace One’s sound quality isn’t the holy grail of iPod docks, it’s generally superb by their standards – and the design is out of this world.
