Casio Exilim S880
The basics
Casio Exilim EX-S880 is a digital camera that takes 8.1 megapixel shots. It has 3x zoom and is ultra-compact in build. It measures 94.5 x 60.4 x 17.3 mm, and weighs just 128 grammes. The camera is known as one of the thinnest cameras on the market, and comes in charcoal grey, dark metallic red, and silver.
The good
This Exilim couldn’t be any more up to date if it carbon offset your photography. Topping this wafer-thin metallic snapper’s abilities is shooting widescreen movies in memory efficient H.264 format with a thoroughly modern YouTube mode for near-instant uploads of ‘amusing’ videos showing your cat dressed as a vampire. If you’d rather stick with stills photography, the 8MP S880’s face detection can store biometric details of up to six people – simply take a mugshot and the camera will prioritise focus and exposure settings for faces it recognises. Smart flash is great too, letting you shoot a burst of three flash photos at night.
The bad
Although this is a great little camera, sharpness tends to fall off as the light fades and the autofocus is weak in most conditions. Make full use of the infinity and macro functions for best results.
The bottom line
The S880 looks great, is fast, easy to use, and shoots pretty good movies. If its images favour bright sunlight and close-up party snaps, that’s exactly what style-conscious punters will be using it for.
