Bought this after seeing it on the show last year. Although we had it for over a year we only used it once a month after 15 uses it went the way of the ones that appeared on watchdog, flashed banged and started to smoke, we are still trying to get a refund!!

The original design had some faults and sure enough after a year, the middle plastic piece broke due to the way you disconnected it from the bottom. However we bought another one as it makes excellent chips, and changes have been made in the design so it is much sturdier and better made. Perfect for hungry, chip-loving teenagers.

I bought this after seeing at the 2008 Show. Last friday, Good Friday, it caught fire and filled the kitchen with black smoke and soot. All smoke alarms went off and stayed on for at least 15 mins. I have returned mine and am assured a refund. This product is unsafe and extremely dangerous.

I purchased an actifry from Amazon in May 2008, and it failed to work today (24th April 2010), when I turned it on, without any previous warning of an issue last time it was used. Black smoke came out of the back and it has an electrical smell of burning. I used to use it maybe twice a month for two adults. The product when it worked was good, but in 2 years, I have used no more than 25 times, for a cost of £121, which works out at £4.84 for a bag of chips not including the electric it uses to cook them! I know a few people who are thinking about purchasing an actifry, I think they are better of going to the chip shop!

We bought an actifry about 14 months ago used it 2 - 3 time a month max turned it on to day after about 2 - 3 mins it started making a funny noise as I went to have a look sparks came out from underneath and sparks from the back, turned it off. If we had not been close by it could have caught the kitchen on fire. I am disabled and we bought this machine as we thought it would be a lot healthier and safer !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Roy

I bought this "fry" few weeks ago to make healthy chips as we have lots of potatoes from allotment. It takes about 40 minutes to make chips. You do not get 1kg of chips, you are preparing from 1kg of raw potatoes. 1kg is the maximum what you can cook, so for the family of 4 not the perfect, but you can have smaller portions and then make new batch. But result is lovely. Chips are perfect and taste better, I would even dare to say, than from chips shop, and it is healthier as well. I tried to make some recepies, which were suplied with the fryer. But I would not recommend it for liquid-ish dishes as the liquid leak through the seal and liquid get under the main pan and make a big mess there.

I bought mine in 2008 - after a short while it caught fire and was repaired. Then a year later it did the same - this time I saw the flames and pulled the plug out. Any comments as to what can be done would be appreciated.

Purchase one October 2010 and rarely use it. In the first year the lid cracked and then broke. Received replacement lid from Tefal in December 2011, then on 6 February 2012 within a minute of switching it on, there was a loud report together with flash which lit up the kitchen. Reported defect to Tefal. Three options available. Will offer to replace same model with 40% discount about £110.00p. Will give details of an authorised repairer - about £40.00p. Return to retailer under the Sale of Goods Act - within 6 years.
