thw warlier commentator on alternative technologies (OLED, SED) is right, i think.
plasma is now good value. my yamaha 42 inch- a hitachi design built by fhp, is gorgeous/ it uses the now obsolete alis screen technology.
if you find a tv with this out there, try it. my yamaha has digital class d amplifiers, good enough to drive my yamaha ns1000m monitors.
these use be drivers, developed in early 70's and never surpassed imo.
you dont need sub-woofer if you use full-range speaker systems. just need to be sensitive enough or be driven by amp/receiver.
the imaging from a good stereo pair beats surround- sound av set-ups in most cases. nd you have them available for first-class music replay too, using switch box. best value overall
