HTC Desire, nice phone. the battery life greatly improves after 10 - 15 charges as the battery gets to full capacity. the signal reception is good, john compares it to an old Nokia, but probably didnt take in to consideration if the Nokia was receiving a 2g or 3g signal.

has the gadget show been replaced with a apple advert ?????

Video calling or Facetime will probably be very successful, due to everybody being very video savvy thanks to vlogging, with video sites like Blip.tv and youtube, and video chat sites and software like tokbox and skype.

All this show goes on about is apple and the iphone, ive stopped watchin it! i am a desire owner and previously i owned a 3gs and the htc is miles better, he didnt mention the flash player! or the widgets or the fact that when you zoom in online the text fits the screen perfectly!

sorry john but spending maybe at most one hour to two with the desire is not fair.i have a desire and it took about 2 days to have a good look through now let me stress ive done a lot of research on phones because i love em and to anyone out there id tell them to buy it..the iphone 4 g DROPS THE SIGNAL if you hold it the wrong way steve jobs or whatever his name is has told people to put a cover on it lololo. say no more...its way to much money and has video calling as the main feature. video calling hasnt that been out for years? so what? and lets face it no one used it because of how much it was...that is still the case..anyway just wanted to say that i cant put the desire down, its so customizable and fryo 2.2 is coming with loads more features as an over the air software upgrade..

I too have a Desire and love it. John didn't mention anything about Android either or the vast array of apps for it such as free sat nav (Iphone anywhere? no). The battery life can also be improved by using a task manager to kill battery hungry background tasks that you didn't know or want to be running. I use one of these frequently and it made a huge difference to the battery. You can also use a plain black wallpaper which apparently reduces battery use quite a lot, like up to 50%.

The nexus one is also a good phone; there's not much difference between it and the desire and has added software features eg. voice recognition . I'm using it now and can watch this video (flash). This phone's in my opinion very good at surfing full websites.

I have the desire and truthfully I would prefer the iPhone 3GS and the iPhone 4 is far better. It is a good average smartphone but definitely not better than apple products for the same price

It's a pity Jon didn't check the HTC website before doing this review video, there you will see the HTC Desire will have HD video recording as well. I have been told by HTC themselves the Desire will get this update along with FROYO. I also think the gadget show leans toward the Apple Iphone even though Jon mentions the cock-up of the Iphone 4 he still doesn't give the Iphone a bad review. I mean come on Jon, Apple invented the only right hand phone to date, and as for face to face chatting thats been around for years (my old Motorola C975 could do that). And if you want to watch these web TV videos you still can't do it on anything to do with Apple due to the Flash player missing. Jon does not mention the limitations of this omission from the Iphone, and does not mention here either that the HTC Desire can view videos on websites other You Tube. So come on Jon tell us all how it is not just what your told to say, better still Jon check on the inter-net for anything new happening to the product you are reviewing. My HTC Desire is great and I can hold it in either hand.

The biggest fan of The Gadget Show must surely be e-Bay ! How can anyone possibly accommodate all the give-aways without asking his wife and kids to leave home (or sell it on e-Bay) ? If a guy kept all of this gear, his wife and kids would probably be glad to leave. They'd take the X-box and all the other games crap with them of course !

oh, so after watching the review of this and the iphone4. the opne lcd flash was a major floor for the HTC but yet, just mentioned for the ipohne. both phones have the same 5mp cam, and yet again, a floor for this HTC, and just a passing comment for the iphone, once again the battery life is mentioned and he says you'll have problems getting through the day, but the iphone four has the same floor, but with the HTC after each charge the battery life get longer, which wasn't mentioned, but with the iphone4, its only ever goign to get shorter! as he says for this phone, ths webs a bit slower than the 3GS, and yet for the iphone four he says the same thing. but all the pro's he comes up with for are not metioned at all in the iphone4 vs HTC, my point is, this being channel five, can you guess who's paying then the most to give there product a good review...!

I agree with most of John says about the Desire but he got a few things wrong. I get excellent signal on mine (I have Orange which uses T-Mobile too) and it does shoot in HD. Yes, battery is poor but you just have to concerve it by for e.g. downloading Memory Booster Lite from the Android Market. I love this phone. It's fantastic! Very fast interface. Very fast internet (even faster with wi-fi). Loads of free apps which are actually good. The text edit thing on the keyboard which guesses the word you want is amazing! I press keys no where near what I'm meant to and it's gets the word I want. I would definetly recommend this phone. This or wait for the Desire HD which is realised very soon.
