Jason didn't help his cause with his "Would your Granny use it?" answer. Plenty of Grannies would have. In fact the Atari had the broadest appeal of any platform up to and possibly including the Wii.
John also blew it on the sales numbers for the Wii vs. the Atari. Of course the Atari started slow. There wasn't any vidoe pesogame market. So in '77 and '78 it created the market. Then in '79 and '80 it exploded.
