ive had a n97 for just over a month now, and im not that impressed.. i totally agree with johns overall view on the phone, but i do find it awkward, and frustrating sometimes.. although we are getting on better with each other as each day goes by.
i "upgraded" after my old trusty palm 750v(a one handed marvel)popped her screen with no warning..and it was goin to be an un-economical repair..so iwas caught between the n97, and the HTC touch pro2,.. i'd had a nokia9500 communicator before the palm, so i thought i'd give nokia another go as i really liked the 9500,..but i have been soon to realise how much widows mobile 5.1 was the way foward..(for me).. im stuck with the n97 for the length of my contract now..so hopefully with a few "usefull apps" and some perserverance i might come to appreciate this phone as it might deserve.. 6/10..
jon has failed to show some of the n97's great features such as it's ability to transmit wirelessly to your car radio ect.
often owners also fail to recognise the phone comes with a screen cover which can reduce the touch screens sensetivity i'm told real screen doesn't scratch to easy.
maybe there are more features on newer phones but it is easy to update via pc.
one of my favourite features was the bluetoothing of my old n95 and transfer all my conatcts pics and messages etc. the internet is very fast and easabilty of device is great. i loved the n95 but this phones bagloads better. 48 gb prob way to much memory though. stick with the 32gb its more than enough for most. just be carefull to use the mass storage when synching device.
