Duh, you can't watch the iPhone video on an iPhone. Please get rid of Flash...the BBC have managed it.

Yea please make this work on iPhone I want to watch this but can't as I only have 3G on my iPhone.

A bit biased. 1) In the search test against the desire why didn't he just press the search button and speak into the phone with google voice search rather than access internet and type it in and also the desire has the same multi tasking, home button and short cut as the iphone to access twitter (oh and with friend stream it will update facebook and myspace at the same time with one touch of the button)? Also the the 2 phones have a similar processor (desire actually has a slightly higher RAM but not enough to notice) 2) Why did they compare the camera with a motorola when everyone knows that the best camera phones out there are the Sony Ericcsons, X10 has 8.1 megapixel and the Vivaz has 12.1!!! (The X10 when it gets it's software update will be as good as the Desire) 3) There are some very sexy phone alternatives out there just look at the HTC Legend which rumour has it the next Desire will look like!?! Clear up you act most of the other websites have admitted that iPhone is no longer the top dog and is actually sharing the top with some very very good phones!! Please note I've tried both Iphone 4 and desire they are almost the same and with just slight differences and only personal choice between them!

Gadget show is getting as bad a cnet on be biased towards apple it,s must be back handers from steve jobs to say there products are the best even though there less than average are there is much better tech out there .Iphone 4 is no longer king of the hill as adam pointed out . John bentley is a nice chap but getting to old to actually see the buttons and press them as he took ages on the test against the htc !

if he put it against the HTC evo the iphone 4 would have got owned, gadget show are so biased and say everything apple is a must have when most of it is overpriced crap

The Internet/Twitter test was obviously not fair since Dave was familiar with the iphone and it's keypad and Jon clearly wasn't with the Desire - just see how fast Dave typed compared to Jon (and that's not down to an inferior keypad either, it's just one he's not used to). An impartial test would have a stranger to both attempt the test first on one and then the other (having been shown the procedure first). But I suppose it's a little much to expect tv programmes like the Gadget Show to use impartial tests! ;-)

The review of the iphone 4 was shallow and vaguely pointless. As other have said there are other phones it could be tested with which would have provided a sterner test. Just brushing over issues like loss of signal if you don't hold it right and the proximity sensor as an append to a whole section saying how ace the phone was isnt good enough. Frankly as other have said it smacked of bias.

Sorry Jon but that was a poor poor review and I object to most of it. * The way you said "because the iPhone has Multitasking it was quicker to get to twitter and post" was just missleading. It makes it sound like the Desire doesnt have multitasking when obviously it does and is better at it than the iPhone. * You obviously are not familiar with Android because you could have easily just tapped menu and then share via twitter straight from the webpage. Also double tapping the button and swiping to get to the twitter app on the iPhone is actually 1 tap longer than on the Desire. On the Desire you just have to single press the menu button and swipe once to friend stream (which is the default out of the box configuration) you can also set up shortcuts and configure android to be even faster where as the iPhone is less flexible. * Why did you change to the Droid to test the camera. the droid has a rubbish camera when you should have stuck with the Desire which actually has a 5 megapixel camera the same as the iPhone. It can shoot high def 720p video too. * Not than I am saying the Desire's camera is any better than the iPhone's I just object to you pitching an obviously poor contender against the iPhone when there are clearly better contenders out there. * Your test of the keyboard wasn't very good either because it is just as responsive as the iPhone's but, just like the iPhone you have to get used to it first and I suspect that you have had more practice on an iPhone. * Please take the time to know how to use the phones first before doing tests next time so that you don't have an advantage on the iPhone because you know how to use it. * I'd like to see you do a new review to restore my faith in Gadget show reviews.

As many have said, this is a clearly bias test. I know for a fact that you could have posted onto twitter in half the time on the desire. Like someone said, its as easy as highlighting and exporting to twitter in the browser. The other way would be to have peep (peep as the android app is called) on the home screen, just a quick press of home, then open and in you go, or even better have peep open already in the background hold down home key and it's there ready to go. Really, do more research and learn how to use a product before you use it against someone who has obviously had a lot of experience with its contender.

I love the Gadget Show but I have to agree with the other posters that this wasn't really a fair test. Wouldn't it have been fairer to do a full group test or even pitch the HTC Desire up against the iPhone 4 head to head? Having used both devices there really isn't much between them and as pointed out by others main of the advantages of the HTC sense UI were overlooked in the keyboard test. I am shocked that you didn't use the share function that lets you share text directly from a web page via various communication methods (including twitter). The whole segment to me smelled a little like a 'lets see how good we can make the iPhone 4 look' feature. I'm not anti-Apple either, this comment is being submitted via my MacBook :) Come on guys, lets have a bit more objectivity and lets restore the trust in what is (in my humble opinion) the saviour of Monday night TV.

I'm gonna coin a new phrase now and that is "Apple Blindness". AB is an affliction suffered by many thousands of people. The main symptom is the outright pig headed refusal to believe that any product created by Apple is anything less than perfect. In extreme cases, especially with the iPhone, people will actually convince themselves that the obvious faults with the product do not really exist. Unfortunately it appears that AB is rife amongst the Gadget Show presenters if the incredibly biased review here is anything to go by (Jason Bradbury has a particularly advanced case). It's a pretty poor effort from a consumer advice show, one which you would expect to come from a neutral standpoint. I certainly hope nobody went out an bought an iPhone based solely on this review (then again iPhone users are used to just doing as their told).

For the benefit of people (mainly Chris) who think that the BBC has got rid of their Flash based iPlayer, I watched an entire episode of Dr Who directly from the iPlayer website on my HTC Desire HD. Yet unlike Chris I was able to watch the video clip on this site on my Desire HD as well simply due to Adobe Flash 10.1 for Android 2.2 froyo. The truth is, in the Flash vs HTML5 debate is that for now and the foreseeable future Flash will be the dominant technology simply because Adobe makes very little supplying the Flash player itself, it makes money supplying the tools to create and manipulate Flash content. They are very adept at doing this - making Flash the popular choice for web developers and site builders alike. Unless the HTML5 camp get themselves and their technology together in this respect they will always be playing second fiddle to Flash no matter what the future may hold - if you don't believe me try visiting megavideo.com or okaydave.com on an iPhone, iPod touch or and iPad - many blank placeholder spaces with broken plugin icons. Meanwhile Apple continue to withhold vital optimisation data for their handheld internet devices from Adobe simply because they want to control the user's access to TV and film media - substitute the word "control" for "iTunes" and you can see the reason why.

@Ubuntubwoy never a truer word typed, ive had the Desire for about 5 months now, 7 if John would of used the Desire for a few weeks prior to this & got to know his way around it, he would of found it much easier to use than the iphone 4.

This again wasnt fair. Apple are clearly paid by apple!!! "comedy dave" already had the twitter app open on the iPhone. If John had done the same he could hold the home button and jump to the Twitter app!
