Double standard in the awards anyone? Apple fanboys seem to be well and truly across the pond now, with their votes having heavily biased the results of this competition. I only need to point out that the iPhone and the iPod are mutually exclusive winners, the iPhone won the 'Phone of the decade' by being one of the most technologically advanced and well supported phone of the decade, so it is not entirely unbelievable that it won, but then the iPod won the 'Music gadget of the decade', which also seems plausible, since it's essentially the MP3 that made digital portable music wide spread, though it is neither the first or provides the best music experience. Now here's the problem, the Nokia 3310 was also nominated as 'Phone of the decade' if the same logic that applied to the iPod also applies here, the surely the 3310 should clearly have won, it was the phone that puts mobile phone into people's hands, it was affordable and stylish (for it's time anyway), not to mention it was virtually indestructible! Further, if the logic that made the iPhone wins also applied to the 'Music gadget of the decade' category, ok, the MP3 player would still have won, hands down, BUT, and this is a big BUT, the iPod, by the same logic that led the iPhone to victory, have no chance of ever being the MP3 player that represents all MP3 players of the decade! Just on top of my head I can already come up with a few thing, such as the new Sony X-Series, or the Cowon S9, or if we're going across the stated, the Zune HD! Sure, the iPod can easily connect to iTunes that make syncing music easier, but is drag and drop really that diffcult? Seriously?! And it is music we are talking about here right? All the MP3 Players aforementioned boasts superior sound quality to the iPod! Of course, it could also be that the average Gadget Show viewer really aren't that well informed in the world of gadgets and technologies, and thus they would go for whatever is 'hip'. Pardon my rant, but I really hate double standards...

Great, the worst phone on the market is your gadget of the decade! Well done, Apple sponsorship anyone!

In my opinion, it seems that the iPhone and iPod were absolutely destined to win - in fact I said as much before the show even started. As much as I enjoy the Gadget Show, it seems to me that if Apple is to be ranked along-side any other product in *any* of the shows, the fan-boys of the Gadget Show will always give the Apple product more credibility. It is beginning to feel like the presenters of the show are in the back pocket of Steve Jobs and Apple. Whilst, I do agree that Apple products are very good and stylish, I do not think that they are the be-all-and-end-all of quality and design. I only think I need to mention the dog that is iTunes that Apple tie you to with their "end-to-end customer experience" on the likes of the iPod - especially, when there are far better media products available. It would appear I am not alone in my condemnation of the Gadget Show's love affair with Apple following a quick look at Digital Spy's forums on last night's so-called awards!

No doubt, iPhone is a good phone but calling it phone of the decade is unfair since you are comparing technology in a decade. Had the decade period been taken as 1995-2005 then Nokia 3310 would have won it as it was latest in technology by 2005. The category 'Computer Gadget of year' didn't have the right gadgets compared. How can anyone compare Facebook, a ThumbDrive and YouTube and on what scale? Common Team you should have done better!

rather than ensuring the 'sponsorship' from Apple for 2010, why not look at something totally boring as being gadget of the decade. Such as Wireless router. Yes, without the wireless router, you can't do anything that you currently can. Think about it.

What most of the people complaining seem to be forgetting is this was all voted for by the public. If you disagree I hope you at least voted! Obviously the iPhone was going to win, its just the way these things work out. It might not be everyone's GOTD but its the Gadget de jour so nothing else stood a chance. What we should be thinking about now is whats next... Can Apple top the iPhone and iPod or will the Gadget of the next decade be from an unknown company. Obviously I still want a hoverboard; Back to the future style... :)

I am really disappointed at you for blocking access to this video outside of the UK. You have many fans across the world and this website is the only place where we can catch up on some of our "techy" info. I thought that five were better than the beeb and ITV but you jumped on the bandwagon and it just goes to show that you're only in it for the money ... What a shame!

Nokia 3310 FTW!!! C'mon!! iPhone is not the best phone! It's the most advertised phone.

Mmmm... First of all, a fantastic show! I do own an iPhone and far as I'm concerned it is the gadget to rule all gadgets - I do have quite a few. Just a couple of points, broadband, 3g, wifi - indeed, Photoshop and YouTube - are not gadgets, they're services, applications (that's programmes for PC people) innovations even, but not gadgets. The iPod has been the most influential player in the MP3 market this last decade much the same as Sony's Walkman dominated the previous decade's portable music sector - whatever your gripe with Apple that is a fact. The iPhone has fundamentally changed the way people use their telephones - and I'm not talking about taking some happy snaps - in much the same way that the cellular phone (what we now call our mobile phones) revolutionised the portable telephone market in the previous decade. Personally I think there many more gadgets that should have had a shout but that's how the cookie crumbles. And last but not least - don't forget that it was the public that voted, it's a public vote and that is who gets to decide.

'Gadget of the decade' is as absurd as 'artwork of the century' - an objective judgement can't be made. For example, just because the iphone won does not mean that all the iphone haters will now say 'oh, I must've been wrong because all these people think it's great - better pop out and buy one'. As for the ipod, IT WAS NOT THE FIRST MP3 PLAYER!!!! Come on folks, are we letting apple rewrite history now? My first mp3 player, the Samsung Yepp, was bought late 1999, over a year before the ipod appeared. First hard-drive mp3 player then? Nope, that honour went to Compaq if we are talking commercial production - before that there were guides available online for soldering together your own hard-drive mp3 player. It was these guides (one of the first truly open-source projects) which apple plundered in order to produce the ipod. So, does the ipod have the best sound quality? Try a Creative Zen before you answer. Best interface? Quite possibly, but the competition are a lot closer than you might think. Best looks? Again, too subjective to call, but my vote is for Archos. And it's sound which matters the most, therefore the ipod cannot be the best. Someone please tell me, what is the obsession with the ipod all about? Can it really only be about the marketing?

The awards were entirely predictable apart from the photography category. Photoshop Elements... really? Has anyone that voted for it used it? Paint.net is a free program and offers a similar offering. But after last year with the iphone 3G winning best gadget of the year while still missing a ton of features that dumbphones had 5 or so years before, there was no doubt in my mind that it would win GOTD. I would like to know though, what iphone were people voting for? If it was for the original iphone from 2007(though the picture used on the show depicted a 3G/3GS) then there is absolutely no way. While it had looks and the simplicity the iphone is known for, it was missing everyone the iphone is now so widely praised for. No app store, limited number of apps on the phone(yay stocks :/), no 3G, limited storage, crappy 2megapixel camera with no flash or video recording, etc. I have to assume it is the 2G iphone as the other gadgets for the most part were the first gen of their type i.e ipod, n95. But when you just say iphone, i'm sure people voting will generally just think of the latest model.

Dissapointing....but predictable. It seems that Gadget Show viewers suffer from the same short-term memory problem that radio listners have (Robbie Williams Angels best song in history anyone???) "Oh, I must vote for my favourite gadget in my pocket right now!!!!!" This result has nothing to do with the "best", just the most popular! THAT IS NOT THE SAME THING!!! For me, it has to be Broadband, without it, many of the gadgets that made the shortlist wouldn't even exist. Can you imagine going back to a world with only 56k dialup?

For me the best software award should go to Ubuntu Best phone is the iPhone Best Photo editing software should go to GIMP Best Music advancement should go to 'Ogg' codec as it is superior compared to the out-dated MP3 MP4 codecs Apart from that The Gadget Show was spot on with everything else...

would we say that the iPhone DEFINED this decade?? i'm not so sure that in 10, 20 or 30 years time we will look back and say: "oh, the noughties, that was when the first iPhone came out." surely it is more about the underpinning technology that supports such devices; such as WiFi, (I'm not sure what this is called but) the movement technology such as that used in the Wii etc and also the now widespread use of touchscreen technology.

I’m extremely disappointed with the results. Phone (IPhone)– no the IPhone should not have won. For starters it’s a rip off, for what it gives you there are plenty of other phones that do the same job and they’re across all networks not just limited to one of two, they don’t cost you an arm and a leg – I mean seariously if you have to pay £40+ a month you should be getting a HD camera on it (seeing as you can get one of those for about £99 now). It wasn’t the first and defiantly isn’t the best touch screen phone available. Music Gadget (Ipod)– again…no, I had an MP3 player before anyone had even heard of the Ipod, it was only 64mb internal memory but it had a card slot to expand that to whatever you wanted, it was about the size of the Nano 3G and the battery life wasn’t bad either. The only reason the ipod in particular was a success is because of itunes so if anything that should get the award. But even that isn’t the best music download store (it might be the most popular – although I’m not sure of that either) but it’s quid pro quo, without one the other falls down. Without itunes there’s nothing special about the ipod and without the ipod, Itunes wouldn’t be a success, so how can either be the best music gadget? Computer Gadget (YouTube) – Ok I can see a case for this, I’ve never really used it myself but it is great at what it does. However there are better options for the same thing. I would have thought Twitter might have been in the top 3, in such a short space of time it’s become massively popular – as shown when Jason and Gail set out

I have to agree with many other comments here, the Gadget Show ratings have become entirely predictable whenever an Apple product is involved and given this obvious bias is it any wonder people who rate gadgets other than those from Apple don't bother voting. Those who say it was a public vote miss the point, it is a public vote on a biased selection list on a biased show. Those who care about gadgets treat it as light entertainment and the Apple Fans can vote to their hearts content

Sky+ in my humble opinion has changed more lives and given everyone the quality of TV we each deserve. I still wonder at the software and am sad that my father is not alive to see such a boys toy, he would have loved it!

If Mr. Hilcock's htc hd2 is so "grated" how come it doesn't have a spell checker? But he's right. I really can't believe that the iphone is the best phone of the decade, that's just rubbish. Most people's opinions on here I agree with fully; it seems that the poll should have been most overhyped or certainly overly advertised gadgets of the decade. The Gadget Show is merely light entertainment from enthusiastic presenters to me now. A very well designed and presented show, but please guys, stop accepting the apple bribe. GOTD has got to be the PC, as nearly everyone has one now compared to the start of the decade. It does seem a bit boring, and true, the computer wasn't invented in the last decade but it's certainly become much much more widespread and affordable in a family home and the workplace. You can't even hand write a piece of work for submission for your studies anymore, it has to be typed! Just like the "Millenium bug", what a farce.

Never, never, never! The iphone is gadget of the decade? What a load of rubbish! Everyone knows that the best gadget of the decade, without doubt, is the American Tomahawk Cruise Missile. Imagine being able to wipe out you enemies without even having to get out of bed and also scare them witless as well as it does acrobatics around their heads before anihalating them for ever -- class!! If anyone got one for christmas and doesn't want it please send it my way. My current address is 10 Downing Street.

@ bobbyboulders In ref to Mr. Hilcock's htc hd2 and it's ability to spellcheck. Spellcheck, as the name suggests, checks the spelling of words. As 'grated' is the correct spelling of a word in the English language it would have no need to correct this upon Mr Hilcock inputting said word into his response. The error is in Mr Hilcock's grasp of the English language no the hd2's spellcheck ability, which as an HTC owner I can confirm does exist.

Come on folks, lighten up!! Its a bit of fun. Collectively we must all agree that the i phone has its place as an innovative product in many ways, such has the HTC HD series or the new nokia n97 etc etc. The PS3 or nintendo wii are all innovative ideas that took gaming to a new or different level/platform, the web cam is most definately an iconic invention. Laptops and the new introduction of small notebooks are revelutionary if you think the first computer was as big as half an aircraft hanger!!!! now you can get the same info and more in an i phone/n95/htc touch. Next year the nexus one with its google software will overtake the iphone for a while, then apple will hit back. then the ps4 will be on sale and this blog will be long forgotten. ;-)
