I have Post office broadband, it is supposed to be 10 meg. Over the past 3 or 4 months I have tried loads of different testers at different times and the best speed I have recorded is 1.8 meg download and 400k upload, this test was taken at 3 am! Between 6 am and 12 midnight the best speed I have recorded was 1.01 meg download and 180k upload. the worst was a lot less than 500k download and less than 100k upload!!! again between 6 am and 12 midnight. The customer service has been fantastic and the router has been really good too. I have never had any issues getting connected, every time I open a browser it works fine, other than being slow. When I was looking to get broadband in the first place, BT said it would take around 18 months to connect me as my phone line had been split at some point and they were "very busy", I thought that was ridiculous so I phoned around and all other providers said that they would have to wait for BT to upgrade the line except for the Post office who said it would take a maximum of 2 weeks to connect me and I was given a connection date for 2 weeks later. 2 days later, there was a BT van at my door and my new line was installed, in the end it took the router longer to arrive than upgrading the line!!! I stay in a rural area in the N.E. of Scotland so the chances of me actually getting anywhere near 10 meg are none existent as I am more than 10 feet away from an exchange and rural areas are not considered a priority for BT when it comes to installing the high speed infrastructure. Britain is supposed to be a technologically advanced nation and yet in many so called "less developed/advanced" countries they are getting over 100 meg to their mobile phones!!! As a nation, I believe we are going to be left in the wake of the technology revolution if we don't get the infrastructure in place soon.

With a certain Cable operator soon to be bringing out 100Mbit I'm starting to feel very left behind with BT for years many people have been asking/screaming at BT to go fibre optic etc and hardly anything is being done by them. And as for other countrys soon 1TBif not already, now look at us ( sad ) Unfortunately I don't get cable in my area I currently get 7.6 of my promised 8 meg most of the time, fine thats good but the speeds offered by other companys I'm not exactly rural like Gumball up there its still no exscuse though. Upgrade the whole country which will create the needed jobs while your at it, two birds with one stone. What's worrying me is that the UPTO term isn't the only problem with the advent of VOD and HDvideos and DDL games to download many people find themselves going over a limit and getting capped ( speed reduced ), even if they pay for so called unlimited usage. This campaign is over Two years old and still needs adressing.
