Zero S rides up the electric avenue The Zero S: All the fun of bike-riding without the hassle of pollution

So, you want a motorbike that looks good, runs cheap and doesn’t result in global meltdown? Well, the Zero S electric motorbike will allow you to burn rubber, without actually burning rubber, if you know what we mean.

The Zero S is a high-performance electric motorbike aimed predominantly at urban use. It uses a proprietary Z-Force power pack and has an aircraft-grade alloy frame. These two factors combine to allow the Zero S a top speed of 60mph. Okay, so it won’t be breaking any land-speed records, but for an electric bike, that’s pretty fast. And if it means that we can forgo another Al Gore documentary on climate change, we’ll all ride one of these.

Being electric means that the Zero S is of course clean, but it’s also cheap to run. And with extras such as the unique ‘projector beam’ and a motor temperature sensor, it sounds quite tempting.

But as with most things ‘green’ there are provisos. Obviously the four-hour charge time isn’t ideal. And when fully charged it’ll only go up to 60 miles, so no Long Way Round adventures a la Ewen McGregor for you. That said, this is an urban bike.

So how much will one of these eco-friendly pieces of tech set you back? Around £6,800 from next month. Cheap if you want to save the planet riding a motorbike…
