Yamaha outs 3D-friendly 7.1 soundbar
HD audio smarts for your 3D home cinema system
There’s nothing like some slinky new AV gear to get us all excited on a Friday, so thanks must go to Yamaha for alerting us to its new YSP-2200 Digital Sound Projector.
The main unit is a low-profile soundbar standing just 3.5in tall, but featuring a total of 16 speaker beam drivers, and a quartet of the latest-spec HDMI 1.4a inputs – can you say “3D Blu-ray”?
To that end, you also get virtual 7.1 surround sound, with the .1 coming courtesy of a booming 100W subwoofer that should have the latest blockbusters rumbling along nicely. It’s no surprise to see a total of 11 Cinema DSP programs in place too, as well as support for the DTS-HD and Dolby TrueHD high-def audio standards.
All that 3D-friendly digital tech doesn’t come cheap, though, and Yamaha has slapped a $1,000 price tag on the YSP-2200. There’s no word yet on an exact launch date, nor when we’re likely to see it in the UK.
