Windows Phone 7 – heading our way soon
Windows Mobile 7 has finally broken cover at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona today. Amidst rumours that it would not be appearing at all, the revised operating system for Windows phones has a few surprises up its sleeve, not least of all a change of name.
Now known as Windows Phone 7 will offer “live tile” areas on the homescreen, which will update content from the web automatically. You can even set mates from your contacts as a live tile, meaning that whenever they update their social network status or upload content to the web, you’ll be able to see it immediately.
The big news, however, is that Xbox LIVE games and Zune music and video marketplaces will be fully integrated into Windows Phone 7, and it’s also multitouch enabled.
Other features include a dedicated Bing button, that will take users to a Bing-powered internet search, a square pop at the Google button on Android handsets. Let battle commence…
