White iPhone delayed yet again
The white iPhone 4 - officially an endangered species
Apple’s lesser-spotted white iPhone has been delayed yet again – this time until Spring next year.
Despite being showcased alongside the black version at the iPhone 4 launch all the way back in June, the white iPhone has never made it any further, with the original promise of just a one-month delay having been extended several times already.
“We’re sorry to disappoint customers waiting for the white iPhone again,” an Apple spokeswoman commented yesterday. Exactly what is behind the delay is still unknown, and Apple itself certainly isn’t telling.
The closest explanation we’ve had from the company thus far is simply that the white model is “more challenging to manufacture than we originally expected”. One theory is that the company manufacturing the Home button on the front of the device hasn’t quite been able to perfectly match the white used elsewhere on the device, and so has fallen foul of Apple’s obsessive attention to detail.
However, the likelihood of such an issue delaying the release of the device for this long is pretty slim. Either way, it means the white iPhone will be set to appear just months ahead of the traditional mid-year launch window for the next version of Apple’s class-leading handset.
One more delay for Apple’s potential white elephant and there won’t be much point releasing it at all.

I wouldn't be surprised if it never sees the light of day! It renders rumours of the iphone 5 being launched in early 2011 pretty much redundant.

People like different varieties of phone colours, well at least I do, so why no pull it out Apple?! If you can produce a black one then what can be any more challenging to manufacture a white one?

It's pretty simple the white colours they are using are susceptible to heat and turn yellow. Older i devices are prone to this. The delay is in trying to find materials that don't yellow with heat and meet Apple's exacting standards. I guess they haven't managed that yet.

this is such a painful wait, I postponed my phone upgrade twice because of white iphone 4. Now thinking to rather wait for 5 version.
