What were the best selling console games of 2011?
2011 has seen some truly awesome games hit the store shelves. What started out as a promising gaming 2011 blossomed into one of gaming’s best ever years, ending with hit after hit, and millions of satisfied console and PC owners.
From Modern Warfare 3, to Zumba Fitness – here are some of the most memorable top-selling games of 2011.
Batman: Arkham CityV
The best superhero game of all time? Possibly. Batman Arkham: City follows on from Arkham Asylum. Gotham City has been transformed into a maximum security prison, where turf wars routinely erupt between some of the Batman franchises best-known villains. If you’re any kind of superhero fan, this is a must-buy.

Battlefield 3
Battlefield 3 may have had its thunder stolen by Modern Warfare 3, but it remains one of the better shooters of the year. If not for its single player campaign, then for its deep multiplayer mode giving players free reign over tanks, fighter jets, turrets and plenty more equipment spanning huge arenas. Battlefield 3 isn’t one of the most played multiplayer games for no reason.
Crysis 2
Crysis 2 puts the player bang in the middle of an alien invasion in New York City. Crysis 2 is the first time the series has landed on consoles, and what a debut. Like its predecessor, players take the reign of an awesome armored Nanosuit with the ability to cloak itself invisible. The main story might be confusing at the best of times, but the action comes thick and fast. A terrific multiplayer mode rounds things off nicely.
Deus Ex: Human Revolution
When a corporation that fuses human genetics with technology is ambushed it’s up to a man named Adam Jensen to find out what’s the big deal, in this most atmospheric of outings. Freedom to play gives players the option to stealth it up, or go in with all guns blazing. There aren’t many worlds like this in gaming, and it’s one definitely worth exploring.

FIFA 12
The best keeps getting better. After a series of tweaks, FIFA 12 shows why the series continues to cement itself at the top of the table. An overhauling of the way players defend has transformed FIFA 12 into a tactical masterclass.
Forza Motorsport 4
Arguably the best racing game of 2011 – Forza Motorsport – made exclusively for Xbox 360 has been tweaked from its predecessor to near-perfection. Developer Turn 10 Studios has spared little detail in delivering a racing game combining realistic racing simulation with arcade-like re-playability. Listen out for Top Gear’s Jeremy Clarkson, too.

Modern Warfare 3
Breaking sales records at will, Modern Warfare 3 is the year’s must-own first-person shooter. A short but sweet single player campaign is complemented by some of the best online multiplayer shooting seen on console. The best in the series.
L.A Noire
From the makers of Grand Theft Auto, L.A. Noire puts players in the shoes of detective Phelps in 1940’s downtown Los Angeles, on a mission to hunt down the clues to some of the city’s most grisly crimes. It’s thrilling stuff all the way through, complemented by some of the best voice-acting you’ll hear anywhere.
Portal 2
The portal-plopping mind-bending puzzler returned for a sequel this year in one of the 2011‘s most critically-acclaimed games. Unlike its predecessor, Portal 2 is a full-length adventure in which players must make their way through a series of test chambers designed to act as potential death traps. Intellectually entertaining.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
The highly-anticipated title proved to be one of the year’s biggest success stories, shifting over 3.5 million copies in just 48 hours. As open world games go, they don’t come any more impressive. Freedom to explore, customisation over weapons and character and many ways to play make The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim one of 2011’s most absorbing games.
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
Prequel to The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Skyward sword puts fans in a completely different time period in which Zelda isn’t even a princess. This is unlike any console Zelda game previously, and still one of the best.

Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception
Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception may have just missed out on top spot in the UK top ten charts, but there was no chance of leaving this one out. The third game in the series more than lives up the hype, providing some of the series most thrilling moments on scale rarely seen in gaming.

Zumba Fitness
Based on a popular dance fitness program, Zumba Fitness seemingly cam out of nowhere to topple the charts for weeks on end, staving off some top games off number one in the process. The Zumba Fitness game combines dance styles: Reggaeton, Salsa, Hip-Hop and more, with over 30 music tracks and routines to help whip players into shape.
