Vodafone cuts data roaming costs
Cheaper data roaming costs ahoy!
Good news for regular travellers or those away on business a lot, or those on Vodafone anyway: using mobile data abroad on certain contracts will now be completely free of charge.
Vodafone has upped its basic daily data allowance from 5MB to 25MB, though as before what you pay – if you pay at all – depends on your contract or how you want to use it.
Should you already be paying £40 a month or more, your daily data quota will come completely free, while those below that rate can upgrade for an extra £10 per month.
More likely to be of use to the occasional traveller, however, is the £2 per day flat rate for every day you want to use data out of the country, automatically applicable if you’re a pay as you go user.
As a contract user you’ll need to opt in to the Vodafone Data Traveller programme, and the new deal covers all of continental Western Europe plus countries such as Bulgaria, Romania and Greece from tomorrow, December 1. Data use over the rest of Europe will continue to be charged at previous roaming rate.
No news of similar moves by other networks as yet, but hopefully where Vodafone is leading others will be sure to follow.
