Virgin's Project hits the iPad newsstand
The cover of the launch issue of Project
Just last week we reported the breaking news that Virgin’s Richard Branson was working on an all-digital lifestyle magazine for the iPad to be known as Project.
Now, with the dust barely settled, the first edition has shot of the digital presses and is available via a free app through the App Store. The issues themselves have been priced at £1.79.
The first edition features Tron Legacy star Jeff Bridges on the cover, with editor Anthony Noguera – formerly of FHM – saying Project will typically feature around 100 pages of dynamic content which can be updated “daily, even hourly”.
In launching the title last week, Branson stated that “the future of publishing lies in apps, not on shelves”. However, it seems Virgin may have been in a bit of a hurry to embrace that future. In the hours after the first edition was made live, there were widespread reports of difficulties in actually downloading it.
Whether these are just teething issues, or simply the result of a rush of early-adopter interest remains to be seen, but Virgin certainly seems to have made an impression with Project whichever way you look at it.
