Virgin Media intros 200MB broadband!
Virgin Media has introduced a pilot 200MB broadband service. Now that's fast!
Thought Virgin Media’s 50MB and 100MB broadband services were fast? Well they’ll seem about as fast as a snail… wearing weights… trying to walk against the wind. You see Virgin Media has actually doubled that and announced that its starting a pilot of a new 200Mbps service!
That’s right. Virgin Media has already lab-tested its ultra-high-speed internet. Those tests apparently went so well that the company has already started rolling it out to 100 lead adopters in Ashford, Kent. Once the chosen ones have put the news service through its paces they’ll provide “invaluable insights into what potential future uses such an ultrafast service may be able to deliver.” Their words, not ours.
What that means is new HD and 3D download services delivered straight through the optic fibre optic pipes and seeing how a real “wideband” service would be used by customers.
What’s more, these unbelievably fast speeds from Virgin Media appear to be the fastest offered anywhere in the world at the moment, laying the broadband smackdown on Japan’s 160MB service and the US of A’s paltry 101MB offering. The pilot scheme will run for the next six months, which is when we’ll find out if we’re all going to get it!

Sounds good until you realise that with their "acceptable usage" policy on the so called 'unlimited' broadband means you will just get your bandwidth throttled earlier. Meanwhile Ofcom and the Office of Fair Trading sit twiddling their thumbs instead of wielding a big legislative stick

with the amount of different speeds i get at the moment i think it would be better if internet providers worked out a better way of giving end users a steady speed than be wasting money making a product that most of us will never use.
