Virgin Media boosts its HD quota
Virgin Media: taking the HD battle to Sky
Watch out Sky, Virgin Media is bringing the HD smackdown, adding four new High-Definition channels to the mix by the end of the month: LIVING HD, FX HD, MTVNHD and National Geographic HD.
Great news then for Sky-haters and people who like to see individual droplets of rain in crystal clarity on the back of a dung beetle, because Virgin Media is introducing the four new HD channels at no extra cost to Virgin Media XL TV customers.
With the likes of the new MTVNHD channel providing a selection of HD content (MTV Unplugged sessions, and high profile live events such as the MTV Europe Music Awards) rather than a simulcast of existing MTV channels, and the LIVING HD channel bringing the likes of CSI to Virgin Media in eye-pleasing High Definition and with Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound, it’s enough to get Sky thinking at least.
Virgin Media’s still some way off from matching the 30+ HD channels Sky can boast, but it’s good to see more and more HD channels sprouting up. Keep an eye for this new crop at the end of the month.
