Vinyl CD hybrid unveiled
Not the mash-up you usually get from top DJs
As music formats go, this is one we can’t see catching on with the kids. But the idea of a vinyl CD hybrid is undoubtedly a work of technology genius, bringing together that most nostalgic of formats with that favoured by audio buffs everywhere.
The five-inch disc is being released by influential US DJ Jeff Mills for his latest single, The Occurrence. On one side is a regular CD, which you can shove into your stereo as per normal.
Flip it over though, and you can play the tune in crackling vinyl style on any deck. It’s a sharp move and one which could easily be picked up by bands looking to make their mark in the increasingly important vinyl singles market.
