Viewsonic puts full HD movies in your pocket
Small screen, big picture
Screen-loving gadgeteer ViewSonic has unveiled a brand new media player in its MovieBook range offering full HD 1080p video playback on a screen no bigger than your palm.
The MovieBook VPD550T joins the 4.3in VPD400 and 5in VPD500 launched in the second half of last year. But while the latter pair had to “make do” with an 800×480 screen playing back 720p – still perfectly acceptable given the screen size – the VPD550T delivers the full HD motherload on its LCD touchscreen.
Like its MovieBook brethren it also comes with 8GB of internal memory – which you can expand by popping in a microSD card – and the no-brainer HDMI output for porting your video to a bigger screen.
As the name suggests, e-Book support is also included, and it’s happy to play your pictures and voice recordings too, while battery life of four hours for video and 15 to 20 hours of audio is more than respectable.
Launch information for the UK is still a little vague at this stage, but the VPD550T is expected to launch in the US for $199 sometime in the next two months.
