Viewsonic outs £150 3D camcorder

Viewsonic outs £150 3D camcorder 3D camcorder goodness for just £150

For any technology to reach true mass-market penetration, products need to come at real-world prices and offer real-world benefit.

That’s why Logitech’s new 3DV5 camcorder can only be a good thing for 3D. It comes in at an eyebrow-raising £150, and yet gives you the chance to store all your favourite family moments in 3D and watch them back on a 3D-enabled screen.

One-touch recording and easy switching between 2D and 3D recording modes makes the 3DV5 a cinch to get to grips with, and it can has both USB and HDMI ports – the favoured option for PCs and HD TVs respectively.

Speaking of HD, it’s only 720p on board and not the full HD 1080p, but obviously some compromises were necessary in reaching such a competitive price tag. There’s little memory on board to speak of either – meaning you’ll need to come armed with an SD card to really get cracking.

Aside from porting your 3D footage to the nearest compatible monitor or TV, you can also upload your footage to YouTube 3D. Viewsonic has thrown in a pair of anaglyph glasses for that very purpose, which work on normal 2D monitors too. Alternatively, you can even watch your footage on the 3DV5 itself thanks to its autostereoscopic 2.4in screen, allowing you to leave the shades out of the equation altogether.

ViewSonic says the 3DV5 will be with us in “October 2010”, so we imagine you should be able to snap one up in the next couple of days.
