Ultra-affordable Archos 2 MP3 player announced
At only £40, the Archos 2 8GB is cheaper than a 4GB iPod shuffle.
Archos has offcially revealed its latest gizmo, and it’s a far cry from the chunky video/internet tablets the French firm has become best known for. Nope, the Archos 2 is a small, affordable MP3 and WMA player designed to take on the likes of the iPod nano.
Like the nano, it’s small, thin and lightweight and comes in 8GB and 16GB capacities. The differences really start to show when you check out the price tag though: the Archos 2 8GB is only £39.99, while an 8GB iPod nano would set you back over £100. In fact, the Archos 2 is actually cheaper than the iPod shuffle, which offers only 4GB of storage yet costs £59.
The price for the Archos 2 16GB has not been revealed yet, but spec-wise it’s the same as the 8GB (storage aside, of course). There’s a 1.8-inch colour screen able to show photos and video, a Micro-SD/SDHC card slot to expand storage, and a voice recorder.
