UK woman hangs up on Apple $10,000 call
Thanks for the first 10 billion...
We reported last week on Apple’s $10,000 incentive for the person that downloaded the app that took the App Store past the 10 billion downloads milestone.
Well, the magical number was reached late last week, and despite the competition being open to anyone on the planet, it was our own Gail Davis of Orpington, Kent that racked up the winning transaction – purchasing the PaperGlider app.
The problem was, it was her daughters, not Gail herself, who had actually selected and downloaded the app, so when Apple called to congratulate her, Mrs Davis – mistakenly thinking it was a marketing call – politely told them she wasn’t interested, and hung up.
Fortunately, her daughters were around to fill mum in on her mistake, and the Davis family are now in possession of their $10,000 iTunes voucher, while Apple is well on its way to app download number 11 billion.

wow what an incredible "coincidence" that SHE should win it. Whoever said these things were fixed are surely mistaken.

i think youll find by "our own" they mean the United Kingdom's, not channel 5 or the gadget show. Some of you are too cynical for your own good.

Thank you Matt. I'm glad one of "our own" has a brain. Well done to Gail Davis' daughter! Hear hear!

What a rubbish prize, it would take someone years to spend that on iTunes.

Well done to you.

That is a good story but the fact that Apple gave her $10,000 of itunes money just makes it annoying because there are giving the money to her only to use it on apple content

Well i'm certain that there will be plenty of music that they'll want in the next ten years or so, if the card doesn't have a time limit, and if you can use it for such things because of the size of it, they could get a couple of macbook pro's with it! I'm sure Steve Jobs would be accommodating there!
