Top 5 things you need to know about the new look Vimeo

The best way to show off the videos you’ve recorded using your fancy new HD camcorder is to share them online for the rest of the world to see. We all know about YouTube, but it’s easy to forget about that other popular video-sharing website – Vimeo.

The second video sharing site, but perhaps the most popular among video professionals, has now had a redesign. It introduces new features to make it easier to use, and better still, it makes sharing videos more of a joy. Here are five of the best new features.

A new video player Vimeo has redesigned the video player to increase its width, putting more focus on the video itself. That means bigger videos. Vimeo has also added better tools, and new keyboard shortcuts to easily navigate to the next video.

Upload more than one file at a time Sharing videos is great. The uploading process? Not so much? Vimeo has now made it possible to upload more than one file at a time. The rest of the process, complete with a live thumbnail preview has been refined to make uploading as painless as possible.

A new inbox that doubles up as your feed Vimeo has overhauled the inbox function so that it doubles up as your feed. This means you’ll be able to watch videos in the same place. Larger thumbnails also give a better first impression of a video before you click to view it. The feed also scrolls infinitely, so you won’t waste time clicking and then waiting for pages to load.

Better search tools One of the problems with video-sharing sites is that there are so many great videos and features, that finding what you want is increasingly difficult. Vimeo’s new look promises to make it easier to get better search results using a new set of advanced search filters for videos, channels, people and the forums.

A no advertisement pledge As part of the new change announcements, Vimeo has pledged to not put ads before, after, or on top of your videos. That, to us is just as good as any of the other changes you’ll find on Vimeo.

Do you use Vimeo? What do you think of the new changes and additions?
